"Revolution (selamectin) is a treatment which will eliminate all external parasites, even tropical rat mites, although they require double the normal dose. Unfortunately, in the U.S. Revolution is only available from your vet (with a prescription in the U.S.) However, you can order it without a prescription from Australia at www.joespetmeds.com, www.petsofoz.net and http://www.petshed.com/. In the UK or Australia you can order it from www.pets-megastore.com.au or 1-866-270-2303." http://www.ratfanclub.org/skin.html

Admin: Quoting from Debbie Ducommun’s Rat Health Care book “ Small porphyrin deposits are similar to “sleep” in the eyes and are nothing to worry about.” I have found Debbie's Rat Health Care book to be very helpful and to save me hundreds of $ in vet bills. These articles are from that book and it is the best information I have found. You can obtain the book at http://ratfanclub.org/books.html You may find other medical help in there for your rat too.

Admin: Here is another post I made on this subject: All fancy rats get infected with mycoplasma when they are born and ultimately most die from it. It scars the lungs. There is nothing that will cure it at this point, but there are some things that can be done to help control it. Antibiotics helps a lot as does keeping lung irritants away from the rats. Debbie Debbie Ducommun's Rat Health Care book describes several things you can do to help your rats. You won't find a more compassionate vet anywhere!

Debbie D. replied:
A lump on the throat can be an abscess, a swollen salivary gland or lymph node, or a tumor. Swollen glands or lymph nodes will be on either side. A lump in the middle is most likely to be an abscess. An abscess is usually inside the skin, so feels attached to the skin, but isn’t usually attached to the underlying muscle. For more on abscesses, see the article on our website at www.ratfanclub.org

Natalie M. replied:
Lake olympia animal hospital is rat friendly. http://lakeolympiaanimal.com/ I had Flash pts there and the vet seemed very knowledgeable and very caring. They offer first visit free for new clients so that gives you the opportunity to meet the vet and see how she interacts with your pet and how you feel. I can't give you any info surgery.
