I only remember 2 other United pilots living in Newport who my dad knew - Stu Baird (close friend) and George(?) Trembley. Wow! I would love to get a scan of that cable! My dad's first ATC mission was Oct. '43, and he flew a total of 16 between SF and Austrailia.

Yes, he was in the ATC and flew WWII, Korea (I think) and Vietnam (I knew it as "MAC" Military Air Command during 'Nam). Started in SFO, moved down in the late 40's/early 50's and started flying out of LAX on the LAX/HNL run. I have the cable from the first transpacific flight ever during WWII from SFO/HNL - top secret war stuff at the time. Did you know Larry Holsinger? He was the pilot who got my Dad into United and was already out of LAX, lived in Bayshores.
