Any local recommendations for computer repair/ refurb - for Macs?

Hope your wallet is bursting because everything Mac or Apple costs a lot to fix. I can sell you an Internet ready/Student PC for $70 with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. You won't get your Mac fixed for anywhere near that low. Also have more Desktops and Laptops at Computer-Repairs.

you could try Sam at Not a Nerd, not sure if he does Macs but he was half the price quoted by others for a job we had done, he's local (close to Freshchoice) https://www.facebook.com/NotANerdNZ/

I've used http://www.ohno.co.nz. Mark comes to you and looks at the computer right there and fixes it if he can - and shows you what's going on. If he has to take it away he goes to some trouble to minimise the cost. Much better than handing it over to a receptionist in front of a blank wall and paying $80 as soon as they open it with no feedback on progress. Seems reasonable pricewise too.

Ah nuts. What happens if you take the battery out and plug the power in? It's hard to say without seeing it but if it just turned off one of the components could have failed, it could have over heated and will start again in a little bit in which case the fan is probably clogged up, the connection between the motherboard and the power socket has broken this would mean it wouldn't charge at all. Anyone PC repair person should be able to remove the drive and copy the data to another device if the laptop is fooked...
