Thought some in this group may find this historical account from 1955 interesting. I recognize many of the family names mentioned, and recall some of these characters....

My grandfather - Sam Levine - was mentioned. He was settled by the de Hirsh fund. Also my great uncle Isador Brounstein ran I be of the apartment complexes on Lebanon Ave. My mother (his niece) was born in Brooklyn but spent summers in Colchester. She met my father one summer and the rest is my history!

Here's Tracy Gordon Fox's article about the Colchester Bakery. I believe it was Jewish-owned prior to Mr Gadle (i.e. prior to 1947): http://articles.courant.com/1992-01-06/news/0000207476_1_bread-snowy-winter-oven

Laureen Scovish, if your maiden name was Smith, am I correct that you graduated with myself and Jon Curtis? If so, I worked with your sister Sherry at S&S after school for a few years. And I also think your sister Kim was the same age as my sister Jeannine Savalle.
