Urgent need: Suggestions for discount dental plans &/or dental practices that include oral surgeons in Columbia area (a plan I can use immediately). Doing internet...

Natalie Weston, 2 options. Do you have a dental school near you? Often you can get them done by the Oral Surgery Residents at a greatly reduced price. Also, check and see if they have a pain study in your area. Some oral surgeons participate in it. They will take the teeth out for free, and then the pain trial involves new pain medications on the market. You have to stay there all day while they monitor his pain level to see how effective the medications are. Down side - if the medications aren't very effective - he'll be uncomfortable.

Natalie Weston MUSC in Charleston has a Dental School. Get a referral from your dentist and call their oral surgery department or have your dentist call for you. https://www.muschealth.com/appointmentrequest/index.htm
Natalie W. replied:
Yep, Renee O'Kelley - all 4 are impacted for my son as well...his teeth have been shifting. no room in his mouth. only 1 is a partial bony impaction I'll be paying for awhile.
Renee O. replied:
At MUSC - not sure of the correct name, but its the Dental School. I just pulled my bill out when I saw your post. I truly do recommend them - they were so kind to my daughter and she was terrified. We had 4- Impact Tooth - Partly bony. $238 per tooth. That is not with insurance - also, the sedation was $268.We saw Dr Lybrand.
Lisa N. replied:
Natalie, there is a dental credit plan called Care Credit. It only takes minutes to qualify online. The interest is low and you will be able to pay all upfront and then make payments to Care Credit...DO NOT go to Aspen, they have SO many complaints against them. My daughter is on her second set of braces and we use Dr. Paul Hahn in Irmo. He does every kind of dental work and we love him!! He also has a great staff that will work with you on payments. Hope this helps!! Let me know if you have any questions!!
Natalie W. replied:
Wow, Renee O'Kelley - just looked at the prices from our consult...twice the price for each & every thing you outlined, including the anesthesia. And, they won't do a payment plan with me
Natalie W. replied:
Yep, Kathy Underwood Carpineto - first thing I checked was health ins policy, for bony impactions/surgical removal - a No-Go. I do have an HSA I'm going to be using up for part of the costs.
Diane G. replied:
As a former dental assistant, I can tell you that sooner or later all 4 will need to come out. If you have had braces and they are not taken out soon enough, the braces will have possibly been for naught because wisdom teeth can push against the other teeth and cause over crowding. That being said, wisdom teeth are evolving out and some people do not have have all 4. I don't think there are many people that want to have them out 1 at a time. Me included. And I had mine out before they even started to come in (smaller hole to fill in) in 1980 when all of my friends were going to Sun Fun at Myrtle Beach. And that was when you could legally cruise Ocean Blvd.!
