Thinking about getting LASIK--Looking for local advice I'm thinking/planning on getting LASIK early next year, so I'm doing some research and would love feedback from...

I had mine done at the Polaris TLC location back in 2008. Everything went smoothly, I would recommend them. They operate on both eyes in the same setting, so you'll definitely need someone to drive you home. You'll have to use eye drops for quite some time after and could need rewetting drops for about a year. I think mine was somewhere between $3000-$4000 at the time for custom LASIK on both eyes, but those prices may have come down since then. TLC also has a lifetime guarantee so if you ever need a LASIK adjustment later in life, it will be free. You just have to make sure to go to your annual eye exam.

I had this done by [Dr Kelley](http://www.arenaeyesurgeons.com). They're more expensive than other options but I wanted the best for something so life changing. Totally worth it. After about 10 months now I still wake up and smile being able to see without lenses. I see halos at night (blurry rings around lights) but I'm still ecstatic about getting it done, considering. They don't limit my vision, they're just something you may or may not have to get used to.

I would recommend [Dr. Amit Tandon](http://eye.osu.edu/directory/faculty/amittandon/). He is an amazing nice and friendly doctor who was really comforting during the procedure. And as long as you keep seeing him year to year he will also give you free tune ups once you vision starts getting worse as you age. Hope you find the right place for you. Good luck!

I went to Dr Stechschulte at Arena Eye Surgeons. The whole experience was really great. Cost was $4600 which was a little on the high side, but worth it. The same doctor did the eyes of a number of famous local and national athletes, among others. http://www.arenaeyesurgeons.com/ Don't forget that you can use an FSA at work to pay for lasik!

I had mine done at TLC in Polaris in 2008. For some reason the idea of a blade slicing my cornea was the freakiest thing to me so I chose TLC based simply on the fact that they could make the corneal flap with a laser. I think my cost was about $3500. I have the lifetime warranty, and I dutifully go see one of their network ophthalmologists each year and naturally, none of those I've tried so far are network providers for my vision insurance. I freaking LOVE being able to see. I have very minor halos at night, like when I wore glasses and needed to clean them with liquid instead of the hem of my shirt. Everyone at TLC was very nice and professional. I recommend them.
My aunt had PRK at LasikPlus in Reynoldsburg in 2007. She's also thrilled with her results. She had shopped around, gotten consultations at several places. I remember she got mad at the office staff at one place because they were a bit rude about how she wouldn't need the lifetime corrections (she was 60 when she had hers done).
My father (who does not live in Ohio) had his eyes corrected to monovision and the concept gives me a headache. He swears you adjust to it. He was so happy with his procedure he helped pay for mine because he felt it was a worthy cause.

I went to 5 different Columbus Dr's. Believe me, that is a lot of dilation! I chose Dr. Beran because he was clearly the best choice for me. He didn't offer levels of service, just the complete and best package. My cost was $3000 and it was the best money I've ever spent! My biggest tip was to take a sleeping pill after. That is the most crucial time. Once you go to sleep for a few hours, the itchiness and irritation has gone...

Got mine at LasikPlus in Easton early 2012.it was about $3000 with "free updates for life". About a year later, my vision has reverted a bit, bad enough where I was getting headaches. My vision is not considered bad enough to get an update, though, so I'm using contacts again. Also, I still get halos at night and it's more difficult to drive when it's dark. I personally wouldn't recommend the surgery, but this ultimately comes down to how bad your vision really is.

Had mine done by Dr. Beran about a decade ago. First, LASIK is totally worth it. Second, I would recommend Beran. Some tips: LASIK is a competitive business environment in Columbus. Use this to your advantage. The various LASIK docs in town will give you a full work-up for no cost. Take your time. Comparison shop. Pick the one you like best. Don't feel like you're taking advantage...this is the nature of their (lucrative) business. FWIW, I visited 4 docs before choosing Beran. None were bad. Beran (IMO) was the best of a bunch of good options. We're lucky in that regard. Also FWIW, Beran's particular brand of laser was the ultimate deciding factor for me. Beran had(has?) and Allegretto laser which based on my research did a better job at minimizing halos. Everyone else had Visx Star4 lasers, IIRC. Compare the tech as well as the docs.

I also had mine done at the Polaris Lasik Center like oesjmr did. I had it done last year and don't regret it one bit. I had the Custom Vue like oesjmr did as well, it goes for about 1999 an eye, but all I did was ask what they could do for me and they knocked it down to 1399 an eye. I can also confirm that if you get that particular option, it is lifetime. In order to maintain the guarantee, you just have to go back once a year to get an eye exam, or you can have one done at your usual eye doctor and give them the results.

I looked into it. Went for the tests and all. Turns out my prescription is pretty strong.(-5.5) They said I was a good candidate but that I would notice a very slight change when driving at night and have some blurriness. I stuck with classes and contacts. Not worth sacrificing anything just so I can see the alarm clock at 2 am.

Went to LasikPLUS at Easton in January of 2010; paid around $3K (this is where FSA's are handy). I can't remember the name of the laser, but it was the kind that did the cut for the flap with a laser versus a knife to reduce the likelihood of bad halos. Honestly, it's the single best thing I've done. The couple of days of discomfort were worth still being 20/20 nearly 4 years later. The staff was friendly, and they did the free consult like almost every other surgeon in the area does. I'd highly recommend them. Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions.

I had mine done at Bloomberg Eye 5+ years ago. They financed me in house and I think it was something like 1500 per eye? Make sure you purchase the upgrade or see if the doctor you pick allows future "adjustments". I've had my eyes lasered a total of 3 times in each eye over the years due to my eyeballs always growing or changing. One final thing that nobody tells you. Getting re-lasered in the future is fine, but you can only do it so many times. Your cornea will get too thin. So if your eyes are like mine, technically you ca only get adjustments so many times before you have to suck it up and glasses again. For the record I have had glasses since I was 5 years old and wasn't able to clearly see the clock or my weenis in the shower for 90% of my life. I love my operation(s) and would never even consider not getting Lasik. It was life changing for me, even if someday I have to wear a very low prescription glasses.
LASIK in Columbus Hi All,
Only 4 posts about LASIK in the history of this sub, so I thought I would ask again.
Where do you recommend for LASIK? I went to LasikPlus...
irishbuckeye replied:
I went to arena eye surgeons - Dr. Stechshulte. He was pricey, but if you have really bad vision you may need additional corrections - he gives 2 years post op care including additional LASIK if needed.

I'm in the process of selecting a provider as well. I've visited with Dr Beran at the [Columbus Laser and Cataract Center](http://www.columbuslaser.com/) and Dr Kelly at the [Arena Eye Surgeons](http://arenaeyesurgeons.com/). Personally, I liked my conversation with Dr Kelly better. But, his prices are higher for LASIK and he does not utilize the same laser technology as Dr Beran. edit - FWIW my optometrist said these are the only 2 doctors he would consider if he was personally able to have LASIK.

I went to Davis eye center. No issues since and I was back at work the next day. Its $4000 for both eyes but when I went in for my consultation (which is free) they told me about a groupon for $1000 off. Maybe keep an eye (ha) out for that. I'm not sure if that's in your price range but I would recommend this guy.

I had my surgery at TLC Columbus with Dr Doyle. She did a fantastic job and the whole process could not have gone smoother. It's been a year now and I've had no complications or complaints

Myself and four other members of my family have all had lasik done by dr Beran and had excellent results. My dad actually had his done around 15 years ago when it was still a relatively new procedure and he has had no issues. I had mine done about 6 years ago and at the time i chose him because he had the most up to date advanced laser in the state, not sure if thats still the case.

I went to Bloomberg Eye Center, and have no regrets. I had severe astigmatism so I had to have an AK procedure done before they would consider LASIK. The AK procedure actually cleaned up my eyesight pretty well (from 20/400 to 20/40) so I ended up not doing the LASIK. They even sent me a Youtube link to my eye procedure so I could watch it if I wanted to. Ninja Edit: I also want to add that my consultation and all pre-surgery and follow up appointments were covered in the price they quoted me for the surgery. If you have the funds to pay cash or check, they will also give you a discount, but they do have financing plans available as well.

Dr. Castellano at Ohio State Havener Eye Institute. I did a pretty extensive search process including speaking to a few of the names mentioned here before going with him this past January. It went so well that I honestly don't even think about it or the days spent in glasses anymore unless someone asks me. He has all the latest technology and is not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
I am looking to get Lasik Eye Corrective Surgery and searching for ideas on good doctors to perform the surgery if anyone knows a good one in the Columbus area?
Amy M. replied:
Carrie Lembach. She's at arena eye surgeons. I'm not sure about if she will do a BWHS discount but it's worth asking
Need recommendations for a good LASIK surgeon in Columbus please and thanks. Insurance recommends LasikPlus.

The group of docs I worked for highly recommended John Stechshulte...Two of the docs had him do their eyes (pronounced steck-shul-tee)...He was part of the original group who worked with the FDA on lasik...228-4500...let me know if you need anything else.

My eye doctor, Dr Zigler, gave me the prescription and told me to go to TLC. I then followed up with my own doctor. Had a great experience

I also used Dr. Beran, about 6-7 years ago. Also had a great experience and the result is so worth it. I did one eye at a time and if I had a re-do would just do them both at once.
Looking for recommendations for a good LASIK eye doc????

I went to Bloomberg Eye Center in Newark 5+ years ago. I never had any problems afterwards and would recommend them.
Sue O. replied:
BEST decision I ever made - wish I'd done it sooner. I went to Dr. David Castellano in Columbus - yes, a little bit of a trip but he's associated with OSU and he and his staff is awesome. He's rated as one of the best in central Ohio. Good luck!
Laura V. replied:
I went to Dr. Beran to get LASIK done, but he said I needed a different procedure which only cost $250. He only did what was needed and didn't take advantage of my willingness to pay for LASIK. Almost anyone I knew at my old job went to him and most of those people were anal retentive so they did tons of research. He is off of 161 and Hamilton.
Holly B. replied:
Brad went to Dr. Beran also and he was excellent. ..perfect sight no issues after.
Columbus friends: I need recommendations for a Lasik doctor in the area... I had a consultation a Bloomberg, but wasn't impressed. Any suggestions, or cautions would be...

Meg...I had Lasik April 12 th with Dr. Beran. I LOVED him. I'm LOVING MY NEW EYES!!! I'm seeing things I've never seen before. It put a whole new view, literally, on life. I highly highly recommend Dr. Robin Beran. He was AWESOME!
Jennifer W. replied:
Lasik Plus at Easton... they were awesome! You only have to do like 2 or 3 follow ups and then you can see a regular eye doctor for follow ups. They will still do updates if needed though.
Looking for recommendations for LASIK surgery. Just checked out Bloomburg but they do surgery in Newark and were kind of expensive. I need another opinion.
