Does anyone know if naturopathic doctors do the vaccine waiver forms? My son is in kindergarten, so I haven't worried about this yet, but I know I need to get it...
KayCee H. replied:
A naturopath can sign it, as will whoever gives the shots at drug stores. Our ped wouldn't sign it either. Anne, if you file a PSA then it's one of the records you're supposed to have on file. http://www.californiahomeschool.net/howTo/records.htm

Anne, the law changed in January of this year. Please look at this link: http://www.hslda.org/hs/state/ca/201312120.asp It's unfortunate but true.

Anyone else have bad experiences with the Sarcoma Oncology Center in Santa Monica? They seem to be all over the place about what they're talking about. I'm looking for a...
Patricia K. replied:
My local oncologist, whose cancer center has a partnership with Stanford Research Center, immediately sent me to sarcoma specialist Kristin Ganjoo at Stanford for a consult. They put their heads together and came up with a treatment protocol which, so far, is shrinking and stabilizing my lung mets, but I have some hellacious chest congestion they are going to do a CT to get more info. I am able to get my treatments at the local Adventist hospital cancer center, and come home. I live 4-? hrs from Stanford (traffic can be unpredictable if you go thru San Francisco). I'm currently happy with the situation and was very impressed by Kristin and her oncology nurse, Ruth Calderon. I'm also very happy with my treating oncologist. I've only seen Kristin once, but based on that visit, I would recommend her. She is the one who directed me to the LMSDir Research website and Sharon Anderson.

I am receiving treatment at the same place. I have been to two other places, City of Hope who gave up on me and told me there was nothing more they can do but Dr. Chawla gave me hope. It might not be the best run doctors office but I have been to many and they all have issues. The one thing about his office is that if one treatment is not working he will always try something else and that goes for clinical trials as well.

My father treated with Drs. Eilber (Frederick and Fritz) at UCLA and was very happy with treatment. He's still going strong 10+ years later and no recurrence. Mine was a little more tricky, it wasn't so much the location that was important for me but the doctor who treated me how to have a specific skill set. multiple doctors in San Diego (Sharp, UCSD, Scripps) put their heads together to come up with a short list of doctors who could handle my situation. Had my tumor removed and reconstructive surgery 10 years ago this month and doing well.

Try UCLA in LA they have a full Sarcoma center I have been treated there for 2 years very happy .Cedar Sinai in LA has a full Sarcoma center Both centers have excellent Doctors.Dr. Chawla I find pushes Chemo and clinical trials too much for my taste in my opinion just saying

I've debated commenting on this post because I hate to judge too harshly on one experience. I flew halfway across the country for a 2 nd opinion there with Dr. Chawla. Upon arrival, I quickly realized I would not be seeing Chawla at all, but no one was going to tell me that...I guess they hoped I wouldn't notice?? They also did not have my medical record which I called 3 times in advance to make sure they received and was told they had it. I threw a massive fit...the kind of fit I don't remember throwing ever any other time in my adult life. Only because of that fit did they bring me back the next day and I did see Chawla. He was full of hope, and he offered up a few treatment options not considered before which was the purpose of the trip. However, since then, the same disorganization has been experienced via phone as I await their test results they ran that day. I have to question whether the trip, the stress, and the flat out heartache was worth it. I had never felt so defeated as I did then in my entire 3 years of this fight. Cancer is bad enough...we should not have to deal with that. I will say everyone I met that day in the waiting room absolutely loves him, and he was very kind when I finally met him. The disorganization is not okay though ..not when you are dealing with people's lives.

UCLA is where I am being treated. I can't say enough good things about my experience with their sarcoma team. Dr Cyran removed my primary tumor in my leg and I am now seeing dr Chmielowski for treatment of my lung mets. I am always amazed at how on top of everything they are and am Very satisfied with their care and professionalism
