True Bistro in Somerville, and Veggie Galaxy in Cambridge were on the list of the top 24 vegan restaurants in the US. The Green Lotus in Hyannis serves Vegatarian, vegan and raw vegan a little place but very good food, you can also go to the Happycow.net and put in the area and the distance. Those that are "veg-friendly" I would call first. http://www.happycow.net/gmaps/searchmap.php

Most any of the places mentioned are family friendly. If you don't want to go too far, the Scott's addition plan is great (Hardywood, Isley, Ardent). Fat Dragon has great beer and food and is right there. You also can't go wrong with The Answer and/or Mekong. For family friendliness (assuming you mean kids), The Answer has ski ball and oversized Jenga.

I second the Local. Also, Mas, Aqui es Mexico (not fancy, but seriously good, authentic Mexican food!), and Mono Loco.
