Local moms: I need a dentist recommendation. I want to find someone who is excellent with young children, especially those who may be nervous, scared, or have...
Christina C. replied:
http://www.gerstenmaierdds.com/default.asp He treats special needs children! They are amazing!
Jennifer C. replied:
Dr. Gindi in Macedonia is great. Becca hates going to the dentist....... And she makes it through ok. His office is called Summit Dental specialists. http://www.summitspecialists.com/
Dana N. replied:
Dr. Vij@Dentistry4 kids is who we used for Shawn.
Kathy S. replied:
Dr. Vij is the best - his is one of the dentists that works with Children's. We found him when Nathan was first diagnosed because he came to do an initial evaluation before the chemo started. Nathan and Elayna are both very comfortable there.
Alyssa S. replied:
Keystone Pediatric in Medina is wonderful! My daughter actually gets excited to go to the dentist!
Jill F. replied:
We have always gone to Dr Mertes. He and the staff are great. They use nitrous when needed. Along with the nitrous, the kids get to watch a movie on the ceiling during procedures. And parents are encouraged to be present during everything.
Lynsey M. replied:
Dr Pollock- Hands down-- my son has been to pulmonologists, ent's, regular ped visits, all with regular visits (every 3-6 months)--- but for some reason I could sense he was nervous for the dentist. He left after his 1 st and 2 nd appointment LOVING the entire visit! And, the parents are able to come back-
Julie C. replied:
Munroe Falls Family Dentistry, Dr. Bartels she is awesome.
Amy F. replied:
Dr. Greg Mertes is the best! The girls have gone there for years.
Tracy P. replied:

Sarah S. replied:
Dr. Mertes. His office is at the children's extension building in Hudson. He is great!
Rebekah M. replied:
Try Hudec Dental
Jamie K. replied:
Dr. Mertes is worth the wait. My youngest had a similar experience at the dentist on her very first visit. When we switched to Mertes after that I explained the situation to them and they took their time with her explained everything to her let her play with the equipment and now she actually looks forward to her check ups!!
Melissa C. replied:
Dr Mertes sits down and chats with you/kids. Very relaxed. I never feel as if he's rushing off to see another patient. I never feel bad asking questions. They take time with you/kids. And he's def worth the wait. I always schedule next visit before I leave. But when we need to schedule procedures (Will's cavities, Alexis getting molars sealed) it's always easy to get in. I could have gotten cavities filled following week but asked to wait until spring break when it fit my schedule better. So yeah, the initial visit may be hard to get, but once you're in, it's easy.
Joyce T. replied:
Christina 'Douglas' Chapin Angela Bozic The older Dr Gerstenmaier has seen Johnny in the past but he is a fan of restraining which is the main reason why I switched to Pollock. The younger Dr Gersteinmaier has much more patience and a more connected/interactive experience with the children and is who I chose to do Johnny's "shark teeth" extraction while he was under anesthesia for gtube surgery at ACH. I like him way better of the two but still chose Dr. Pollock for regular office visits. BTW, Dr. Pollock is working on getting contracted with ACH now. Having options is good!
Angela B. replied:
I think I will call Dr. Savelli for her advice. Another thing that pissed me off is that this dentist today seemed uneasy bout having a patient who had cancer even after I specifically asked if the doc had experience when I made the appt. And this is a dentist that was recommended by the bcmh nurse. My main concern with Ryan is his enamel deteriorated from the the chemo but this dentist said his enamel looked good. And of course I'm worried about Rowan after what happened to her today.
hey guys do you know of any good dentists in the area that are covered under guardian and medical mutual insurances? My wife and I just recently moved to Cuyahoga Falls...

I used to have extreme dental problems and they did nothing but treat me with the upmost respect. They can sedate you if you want but I prefer the laughing gas. I recommend her to everyone I know.

State Valley Dental. I see Dr. Chung....he is amazing. I have an extra nerve that does not allow me to numb up very easily and he does everything he can to make sure I am numb by blocking it and then going around the tooth on all sides with novocaine. He is super gentle and extremely nice as is his dental assit Vicki! I LOVE THEM!!!!

Lauren U. replied:
Dr. Folatko is awesome! I know they take Medical a Mutual. Not sure about Guardian. She's very gentle (barely ever feel anything when she administers novocaine) and they are prompt with their appointments without making you feel rushed. Used to go to Dr. Wolff. Felt like I was being ignored while her office staff chit-chatted.
Stephanie P. replied:
I don't live in the falls anymore but my parents always took us to State Valley Dental. Dr. Marino. My parents still after living in Canton 23 yrs drive from here back up to him since he's so good at what he does n makes sure his patients are comfortable before starting any procedure.

If you want to drive about 20 mins to Norton... Dr Kate Raymond is one of the best... Non judgmental ones out there. Best staff ever.
Sherri D. replied:
Dr. Fiocca on Graham...very nice man, calm and is conservative...has never pushed any unnecessary procedures even fillings, which some dentists really seem to push.
Joyce B. replied:
I see Dr. John Learner in the red brick building below the water tower. I believe he is taking new patients and takes all major medical insurances. He's really funny and makes going to the dentist not so bad!
Ginny T. replied:
Definitely Dr. John Fiocca
Philip E. replied:
Yea i was a former patient of Dr. Peung in springfield. but her receptionist has been rude to my wife and I to many times and im just fed up. done. They used to be nice, moved to a bigger building more tech and got rude all sudden.
Karen M. replied:
Well dang, why did he tell me he was retiring....and he brought in another dentist. I went a couple times after that and always saw the new dentist. I loved Dr. Mungo! The new guy, not so much. So then I started going somewhere else. Well since he still there, he is the best dentist I ever had!!!
Megan B. replied:
We go to Stow Dental Group, Dr. Thompson. I have no idea about what they take for coverage, but he's great and has never been anything but understanding with the dental-phobes in my family.

I ended up at Summit Dentistry in Fairlawn and couldn't be happier. I have needed extensive dental work and avoided the dentist for many years. They are very gentle and compassionate but also very professional. I started there and now have my kids and many family members going their too.
Just had a horrifying experience with our dentist… Does anyone know how I go about filing a formal complaint?
Jenn K. replied:
michelle channel 3 news just did a special on bad doctors heres a link to file a report with them, also. http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/health/bad-medicine/2013/11/22/how-to-file-a-complaint-against-a-doctor/3681495/
Denise R. replied:
Dr. Adam pollock
Jessica W. replied:
I would get on the phone with CPS, I would report this to American Dental association, the licensing board in Ohio and also channel whatever news. I've had to take care of sick screaming kicking children and still there is a level of professionalism that is expected with communication. That being said, for a bite wing X-ray strip to lacerate his lip is evidence of abuse, and also the fact that the doctor did not carry out due diligence to "do no harm." Hugs. Poor little man!
Jenee V. replied:
I really believe that children should be seen by pediatric dentists. James should not have had to experience any of this. I highly recommend Dr Adam Pollock. He is on Portage Trail.
Lisa P. replied:
You can call the American dental association and the Ohio board of dentistry to make a formal complaint. I had a really bad experience at summit dentistry with dr. Salem. I now have to live with what he had done for the rest if my life. It's sad really
Michelle W. replied:
I am posting this not to spread gossip but to make everyone aware of what happened and never to go to this doctor again....This happened to James today... Today James went and saw Dr. Leonhardt, our dentist. He took him back to do an x-ray and walked him into the exam room, asked him to sit up straight and laid the chest protector over him. I noticed that it was not on correct so as he was getting the x-ray machine ready I went and wrapped it around his chest and his neck area covering him, Then stood in the doorway to watch. Dr. Leonhardt told James to open wide. He became agitated and firmly told him to sit still and open wide.. he quickly shoved (w/o gloves)the bite strip in his mouth and held the x-ray against his face and firmly told his nurse to snap the shot while he was still in the room with James. I could tell at that point that the bite strip had hurt his mouth and that he was a little more abrupt than I would have been but James seemed fine at that point so I didn't say anything. Then he went and got the other bite strip and walked around James he firmly told James to open his mouth and when James didn't open wide enough he started to yell,"sit still James," "open, open your mouth James.."He was hovered over James pushing James down by leaning on him and screaming at him. James was crying and saying, "stop it hurts it hurts" I ran into the room and around the dentist and yelled "stop you're hurting him.. stop!!"Dr. Leonhardt completely ignored me and said, "James ...James hold still, open...open"and then began yelling at his nurse to "take the picture, take the picture!"during this time James is sobbing ... The x-ray is snapped with the doctor, myself and James all in the room. He pulls the bite strip out of his mouth his bottom lip bleeding and crying tears.I run over to the chair and grab him and hold him. The nurse says "don't be scared James." I looked at the dentist and said, "don't ever talk to my child that way. That is not okay!"I held James in the room and told him how "no one should ever treat him that way and that when he tells someone to stop because they are hurting that whoever is touching him should stop!"We went in to the main examination room and the dentist told me that,"James did great but I didn't do so hot."I told him,"I never wanted him to talk to my child like that and that nobody yells at my children like that."And that" he was afraid." He ignored me and told James that he "would give him a fossil and that he could pick from the treasure box....because he did such a good job"then proceeded to do the examination. James was apologizing the whole time as if he did something wrong. I kept telling him that he did nothing wrong and that when he was hurting the doctor should have stopped.
