I've recently become a huge fan of Hotwire.com. You can search for a room by the # of stars. They won't tell you the name of the hotel until you book, but they will tell you names of hotels in the same-star category. For example, I searched for a 4.5 star hotel on Miami Beach for this Saturday and there is a beachfront hotel on Collins in the same category as the Intercontinental for $309.00. You can play with the dates and the number of stars to find one that matches your budget.
