Looking for a Good Animal Shelter I'm hoping to adopt a cat either this weekend or in the coming weeks. Any recommendations on a good shelter I can adopt from? Thanks!

[Max Fund](https://www.maxfund.org/adopt-a-cat/), [Cat Care Society](http://www.catcaresociety.org/), [Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue](https://co.siameserescue.org/), [Almost Home Adoptions](https://almosthomeadoptions.com/) are a few that we have visited and adopted from.

I got my dog from the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley and I was super impressed with the cleanliness and level of care that the staff employed for that facility. I can't really speak to cats, (except I know that they do have them there) but I thought it was one of the best run shelters I'd ever seen.

I got my cat from Dumb Friends League. I really liked them because they had behavior quirks of each of the cats clearly spelled out and had me meet with an animal behavior specialist to go over expectations before I officially adopted my cat. My cat is kind of a special case: over-stim, no kids, no dogs, no other cats, older, longtime resident but no major health problems. They gave me the worst case scenario for bringing the cat home which I really appreciated. I could tell that they really wanted the best things for all of their residents and they wanted adopters to be prepared.

Foothills is very well run and clean but comes at a higher cost, Denver city pound is clean but pretty jail feeling but its also end of the line for a lot of animals. I have not experienced DDFL but have heard a lot of great things.

What kind of cat are you looking for? I have some excellent prospects that I am currently caring for. They are barn cats from my farm that I brought inside as kittens because they were sick. I nursed them back to health, and now they are house cats that need a home. I can think of a grey tabby male (Monkey cat, because he has a ridiculously long tail) and a tabby female, that would both make excellent pets. I also have a blue male who is already neutered (Jesry, named for a character in Neal Stephenson's book Anathem) He is a bit standoffish, but is a sweet cat. Let me know if any of them seem like possibilities.

Don't forget there are always rescue groups to look into also that keep their animals in foster homes. Forgotten Felines is where I my last cat (kitten). They specialize in adopting street kittens/cats. They list their adoptable animals on Craig's List and you'll need to set up a Meet and Greet with the foster parent and app if you see a kitty you like. You can also take the cat back if something doesn't work out. I was super happy with our experience with them. $65-85 (depending on age) spay or neuter/shots/chip.

Try Petfinder.com. That's where I found my dog and they have all sorts of adorable rescues. :)

Maxfund. I was a volunteer 2 summers ago. You have to attend a dog and/or cat orientation before you can start. But they hold them at regular intervals. Let me know if you have any questions.

Pawsitive Restorations is an amazing group in Aurora and they have rescued SO many and are always looking for help. I follow them on Facebook, have known people who rescued pups from them with wonderful results, and am amazed at how well they are able to care for pups and dogs who need lots of assistance https://pawsitiverestorations.com/

Also, I am so very sorry for your loss. We lost our lab a few years ago and it took so much longer to recover from that than I ever assumed it would. He was our first dog and we were unprepared for the huge loss, even though we knew it was coming.
