as long as the dog never sees the new baby as something bad it should be a smooth transition. We always make sure our dog gets to give the baby a smell but not a lick. The most difficult time will be when the baby starts crawling. Even a very well behaved dog can be unpredictable near a baby. Always have the dog within arms reach when the baby is around. I own two Australian Shepherds and my daughter is almost 11 months old, so we are going through this now. We also bought a security gate so we can let her play on the floor sometimes without having to watch the dogs constantly.
