Highly recommend Long & Humphrey - they picked up a problem with title deeds that were still assigned to a former lender - two previous advocates had missed it
Very unlikely you'll get somebody to do you a reliable house survey for free. I've used Berry & Co in Douglas and found them good (cost of survey should be about £350 - £400 ish)

Even if the bank are offering a free survey, get your own - you can't rely on the bank's survey if something comes to light later which the surveyor missed. I'd recommend Abbey Property Renovations for a damp/timber survey.
Quick query out to everyone, does anyone use or know of a good knowledgeable Architect/surveyor on the island that can wade through the contradictory DOI planning laws?...
