Don't go to the Carlton clinic, go to a doctor who you can get an appointment with when you need one, this practice is too big serving too many people, and you'll never get an appointment with the same doctor unless you know your going to be sick a week in advance, I like the idea of your doctor knowing your name and medical history without having to look at a computer screen, and before I get abuse I'm with Carlton clinic

Eileen C. replied:
Ben Collins psychotherapy works for Living Life on a volunteer basis foc but I suppose even psychotherapists have to make a living. Living life is a fantastic service but It can be hard to get on their list because it is a charity.
Mcguirk M. replied:
Thanks, Living Life have a long waiting list so best to apply early. Lincara Mental Health Day Care Centre is mainly for people who have serious mental health illnesses and for those who have already been to Newcastle psychiatric hospital...you have to be in a a really bad way and even then admittance to Newcastle is very difficult...they don't have the beds or services to meet the demand. In my experience local doctors know nothing of counselling services etc. Mental health services are grossly underfunded in this country and that is one of the reasons we have so many problems with suicide and ongoing mental health illness.
Mcguirk M. replied:
ps..the local Health Centre have a counselling service...again there's a long waiting list. You get 8 sessions with a psychologist/psychotherapist which is not nearly enough for most people. I was told there is a long term option but only after I was accused by the community nurse of not availing of it (don't ask).
