I really like [4 th St Auto](http://www.4 thstauto.com/), they have serviced my Subarus for a decade.
Dorkamundo replied:
Body work is different from what you are asking about. That said, for a Subaru my suggestion would be DMC Auto Repair and Welding up on Central Entrance. They specialize on Subaru, Audi and others and have been great for me and my friends. They'll probably love working on your WRX as they have a bit of an affinity for them.

I've used Henrickson and had good luck with them.

I really like [Troys Service Center](https://www.troysservice.com/). In Proctor though, not Duluth.
DSM2TNS replied:
I'm a fan of All Star (their parking sucks but they're good) in Duluth and Oliver's in Superior. Duluth Tire is good for tires and Bill's in the West End is great for breaks. Bill's let me bring in my own breaks (tried to do them at home but back breaks have gotten hard).

For stuff like that I use Lakehead clutch and brake on 22 nd west and 1 st st. They can almost always do it same day and have decent rates. When I had my impreza I took it to the dealership for the clutch replacement. It was only a bit more than other shops, and they gave me a brand new outback loaner car for the week so I felt like that evened things out

Smittys Auto in Hermantown has been good to my family for a few years now. If you need an oil change they are doing suspension and break checks atm. Make sure to call ahead since they can be busy.

I go to Melanson's in Hermantown. They've been family owned for three generations, and we have three generations of happy Melanson's customers in my own family.

Duluth Motor Company hands down. These guys have a lot of experience building and maintaining performance cars, especially Subarus. They helped me diagnose misfire issues with my old Legacy GT wagon. For auto repair I won't let anyone else touch my cars.

http://www.foreignaffairsofduluth.com/ and http://www.4 thstauto.com/ are the only places I'll take a car in for mechanical work. I wouldn't trust discount tire to touch my car.

I highly recommend AutoMedics. I've been a customer ever since learning how honest and great they treated my mother. Straight shooters and do great work.

Jody at Accurate Auto Repair in Hermantown. He's the best.

Kenwood Muffler is a straight shooter, and easy to deal with. I think he just charges straight time instead of book too.
I've questioned him a bit in the past about him always wanting to do both sides with brakes, but a couple times when he just did the once side on not brakes the other side failed shortly after so I've leaned to just trust him with that.
He also always wants to replace it all, and I question that, but at $75/hour, it's probably cheaper just to buy the part than have him futz with it, and the end result is better anyway.
No sense in having your new pads go to hell because your caliper is sticky with rust. If the left side is rusted, how is the right side not? This is likely what you're dealing with now. The salt rusts the calipers, the pad sticks, wears down and makes that grinding noise. Now you need new pads, rotors, and calipers. On both sides it's at least $400 installed.
Part of trusting a mechanic is letting him use his professional judgement. You're paying him for a reason.

I’ve found the work at AutoMedics to be good but on the high end for cost. Accurate Auto Repair in Hermantown does good work and they only fix the problem at a good rate. They have been the go-to people for all of us at my work.

Auto Medics is great! Hanson Auto not so great.

Luckys out on 53. Casey is the most genuine, straightforward mechanic I’ve ever met. Prices are reasonable and never had a bad experience.

No recommendations but you should bend your dust cover back a little and jiggle a longer flathead screwdriver in there to see if a rock is wedged
PabstyTheClown replied:
Could be the wear indicator that is supposed to scrape when your pads are almost toast. It's not a hard job to do yourself. Otherwise, the only place I have ever taken my car for work was Rivord in Superior for new u joints. I am a very good shade tree mechanic but I don't have the tool you need to press them in and it's one of the few jobs that you really want a lift for. I had very specific instructions and brought my own parts and they did a good job. Owning a car like that would make me want to learn how to do some stuff on my own as they are known to require a fair amount of maintenance as a high performance vehicle.
Nammit. Hit a deer. Anyone have a great reasonable auto body shop they would recommend? Cracked front bumper.
Amber N. replied:
Abra Auto Body did mine when I hit the deer in August. Insurance covered so not sure on how reasonable priced they are but they did a very quick and good job. They are in Scanlon behind the old Kolar building by the bridge.

Arrowhead Auto Body did a great job on the rear end of my van which was hit in the parking lot parked in a handicap zone (my knee), by an elderly gentleman who should not have been driving. Don't know if they are reasonable..his insurance paid
