Does anyone know of a good dog trainer (or training place) to help train a middle-age dog? Very much appreciate any tips!

[K9 Misfits](http://k9 misfits.com/) Is always my top choice, followed by [Soul 2 Soul](http://www.soul2 souldogtraining.com/) as they are both applied behavior consultants and have a wealth of knowledge and experience. www.dogspaw.ca is great, the Edmonton Humane society has a free behavior hotline that you can call and ask questions as well. All of these places are science based positive reinforcement and totally force free.

Look for a place that uses positive reinforcement - clicker training. I do think Edmonton Human Society also offer training.
Veterinary behaviorist? Does anyone know of a good veterinary behaviorist in Edmonton? Not a dog trainer but an actual behaviorist? Specially for aggression and fearful...
N81L replied:
Contact Companion Vet . They work with an animal behaviourist and also are " fear free" trainers.
senanthic replied:
There are no veterinary behaviourists in Edmonton, possibly none in Canada. There are certainly people who bill themselves that way, and I would definitely suggest going with fear-free training, but you're SOL for an actual certified vet behaviourist unfortunately.

The two I hear the most about in Edmonton are Bilinda Taras Krupa of [K9 Misfits](http://k9 misfits.com/) and Colleen McCarvill of [Diamond in the Ruff Inc.](https://www.diamondintheruffcanada.com/?fbclid=IwAR3JxhlDdYeIuVGz25Sfiwf13 qrlf3WTfgiW-f69QfrSASJYZaR2C3 n7 aP0) You can find their bios/credentials on their websites. I don't have personal experience with either, but know other people who have had positive results.

I used K9 Misfits with success, but I don't think Bilinda is a vet. Also check out the reactive dog subreddit.:)
Recommendations for dog training in Edmonton? Hi there,
As the weather is warming I want to get my boyfriend's miniature schnauzer trained. Preferably outdoor classes...
kvas_taras replied:
SHERWOOD BARKS. Nobody does it better in yeg. They do one on one sessions for reasonable cost. Excellent techniques that are all about positive reinforcement.
rigidcontrol replied:
Please please please go with a Force Free Trainer. Alberta force free alliance is a great resource to find one. This is a situation your partner needs to get ahead of, and using a positive reinforcement trainer is going to be the best way. Using corrections(read: positive punishment, force) with dogs has been proven to be less effective and even harmful long term for their well being - especially when dominance and aggression are starting to show up.
