Does anyone know of anyone from our class (1960-1965) who lost their life in the Viet Nam War? I know of only one friend and he was a trumpet player in the Marshall...

Thanks Sheila Hilton. "NEVER WAS SO MUCH OWED TO SO MANY BY SO FEW". I was reminded of these Vietnam vets, our Eau Claire friends, by this wartime speech made by the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill on 20 August 1940 which I saw last night - a great 2 hour video/memorial about Winston Churchill and WWII titled "Walking with Destiny" and how the Allies including a lot of help from the U.S. helped defeat the Nazis. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1727596/plotsummary...

"Betty Mezera called retired biology professor Dave Crowe, who had been involved in planning the original memorial, and he got permission from UW-Eau Claire's buildings and grounds department to remove the plaque. Crowe then delivered it to North, where custodians mounted it on the Memorial Wall next to a display honoring Terry and five other North graduates who were killed in action in Vietnam." "Memorial gets new home in time for Veterans Day By Eric Lindquist | Posted Nov 11, 2011 http://www.leadertelegram.com/blogs/eric_lindquist/article_fdbdf53 c-0 a57-11 e1-b239-001 cc4 c002 e0.html?mode=jqm When Betty Mezera of Eau Claire heard earlier this year about planned changes to the area around a small UW-Eau Claire memorial to her son, Capt. Terry Mezera, who was killed in the Vietnam War, she sought to have the plaque moved to a new location. After the devastating news arrived in 1971 that Terry, a helicopter pilot, had been killed while volunteering for a rescue mission in the mountains of Cambodia, the faculty of Phillips Science Hall established a fund used to build a memorial consisting of a bench and a bronze plaque embedded in the ground in the courtyard of the building, where Betty Mezera was a well-liked custodian. Upon hearing earlier this year that the grounds around the memorial were being cultivated for new gardens and the university's 20-year facilities Master Plan calls for replacing the 47-year-old Phillips Science Hall, Betty and her husband, Frank, decided that North High School, from which Terry graduated in 1967, might be a more permanent location for the tribute. She called retired biology professor Dave Crowe, who had been involved in planning the original memorial, and he got permission from UW-Eau Claire's buildings and grounds department to remove the plaque. Crowe then delivered it to North, where custodians mounted it on the Memorial Wall next to a display honoring Terry and five other North graduates who were killed in action in Vietnam. The story is a simple, but heartwarming example of local people and institutions working together to do the right thing, and the family obviously is thankful. "It's just a wonderful thing," Betty said, "and I think more people will see it now." To show their appreciation, the Mezeras made a donation to the NHS Flag Fund, used to buy two new American flags every year, said Ellen Cernjar, North's partnership coordinator. Betty added that she and her husband, Frank, are pleased that more people likely will see the plaque now - and be reminded of the war and its costs - than at its former home in a fairly secluded spot on the university campus. "I have a friend who goes to a lot of games at North and says, ‘I say hi to Terry every time I go by,' " Betty said. As for Betty and Frank, they will be thinking of their missing son even more than usual today - Veterans Day - although that will be difficult because, Betty said, "We still think of him all the time."" http://www.leadertelegram.com/blogs/eric_lindquist/article_fdbdf53 c-0 a57-11 e1-b239-001 cc4 c002 e0.html?mode=jqm
