Hello! I'm headed with my family for a cruise from LA. We have a full day in LA before our cruise, and 3 days after... looking for ideas for family-friendly hotels, etc...

I took my son to LA in Sept 2016 for a week and we stayed at Hollywood Orchid Suites. Very clean and shockingly quiet for the location; a great pool and the family suites are a huge money saver. We traveled all over LA (oh! it has free underground parking!) and Santa Monica and found it very centrally located.

The night before our cruise we stayed here: https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hotels/us/en/san-pedro/laxpv/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=GoogleMaps-_-CP-_-US-_-LAXPV You could walk from the hotel to the port but we had the hotel shuttle us, which was about $5 each. We arrived late so we didn't do anything the previous day but the day of departure we didn't have to be there until about 2 pm so we walked down to the port and looked around. https://www.pacificbattleship.com/ There's also a little village with cool shops and restaurants. https://www.portoflosangeles.org/recreation/ports_call_village.asp
We are looking to escape the cold for a while in the new year. Would you recommend a cruise or resort (or something else) with a 1 year old and a 2 year old. We realize...

I thought I read with cruises they have to be potty trained to even use the pools?? Maybe that was for just Disney cruises? I could have really misread that when I looked into it though. There were a couple of water park style resorts for great deals through https://www.facebook.com/1383405011900678Travel VIP.

I stayed at Hotel Praktik Bakery in Barcelona. It's a hotel inside of a bakery. You wake up to the smell of fresh bread, an amazing breakfast of pastries, breads, cakes, and it's in a perfect location. I know i'm biased, but come on... its a bakery hotel.
We are planning a cruise out of Port Canaveral this February. We are staying a few days in Port Canaveral before we sail. Any suggestions on what to see, where to go,...

We have cruised out of PC several times as we had homes about 40 mins south of there. You are close to Cocoa Beach to the south and the space museum at NASA to the north. If you are lucky enough to be there when there is a launch (keep posted as the launch day and time can easily change due to weather, etc.). If so, grab a take out or something from Publix or Winn Dixie and have a picnic on the beach and watch the lift off. It is very cool! Go early. Not sure about swimming that time of year but if it is hot you could relax on a beach. Straight down A1A, I like the one across from Patrick airforce base or down further at Ocean Beach in Melbourne Beach. Downtown Melbourne is like a smaller Whyte Ave with a laid back beach vibe. There is a restaurant and Irish pub called Meg O'Malleys on E. New Haven ( the Main Street). We go there a couple of times a year. If you look up the menu....yes, the bean soup is 18 cents. Go there hungry and if there is a line up, it is worth the wait. Some other places we like off the top of my head are Squid Lips ( eat down on the sand or in the screened patio and they usually have live music). Their Bimini bread is fabulous. Grills Riverside Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar. The Mansion is a very nice place and much quieter. You could always go to the theme parks in Orlando. Less than 30 mins east of PC. Right near the cruise terminals there are locks you could walk to and watch for manatees. If a Disney ship is leaving PC, that is cool to watch. They play "When You Wish Upon A Star" when they leave port.
