A good leather belt for holding up your jeans is a buy-it-for-life type item, the sort of thing that only gets better with every notch. I think it's it's worth it to get the best. Try Clo's, the leather worker in the Mercer building. You can buy one pre-made, custom, or take a one-evening workshop and make your own: https://www.closgeneral.com/products/leather-belt-workshop?variant=31362515784

If you're looking for a leather belt to strop with, try Knifewear on Whyte or it's sister store right beside it with all the soaps.

What is inexpensive to you? If you haven't been there yet, check out Halford Hide and Leather. They might have something suitable for sale, or be able to connect you to someone who can make one. I haven't done much leatherworking or I'd offer to make one for you.

Shoemakers can help you out there and make one for you on the spot. Weirdly enough Lucky Brand Jeans has some full grain leather belts sometimes (or did when I worked there)
