https://www.facebook.com/urbantimber I bought my table from these guys! They custom made it for my space. I ordered a piece of glass to cover it while my kids are small then we'll take it off once they get older. It's a beautiful piece of art with lots of history too!
Sheryl K. replied:
The Seven Drawers has some good ones too. They have a website.

Windsor or Nelson should fit the bill.... except for the fact that wood prices are very high right now across the board. Covid-19, US demand and Canadian demand are all impacting the price. We had a very nice table made last winter. Inquired to get a similar table for a friend and the cost had shot up specifically due to material costs.

I think Windsor Plywood is your best bet - there hasn't been a good hardwood store in Edmonton since Global Hardwoods went away. Their selection is good IMO although nothing like a dedicated store. Check multiple locations - each location is independent and will have different prices and selection, especially on shorts. Depending on what you're building shorts can be good value, and are usually available in maple, birch, cherry and walnut. Your next best bet is to make a trip to Calgary and visit the Black Forest Wood Co. Other than that, I've had some good luck keeping an eye on Kijiji - you might get lucky on maple or birch.

Very surprised not to see WG Chanin Hardwoods on this list. The guy is crazy passionate about wood. He's got inventory from all over the world and just walking inside is like going through a museum. He'll cut you literally anything you need.

I got some really nice kiln dried fir from superior lumber for a table i made this summer, they have some other species as well. Windsor plywood has some selection but I find they can sometimes be on the expensive side. Got some ash shorts there. PJ white hardwood used to be a good place to go, but they were bought out and I'm not sure what their deal is anymore. I've heard some people recommend Nelson lumber as well but I have never been there myself.

My dad always goes to Windsor Plywood on St. Albert Trail for his woodworking projects.
Vignaraja replied:
Windsor Plywood has a good selection, but each store is different. Sometimes they have 'misfits' at a cheaper price.

Zach Kingma posts in the two Edmonton wood-working related groups I'm familiar with (Edmonton Real Woodworking and Edmonton Woodworking Buy, Sell, and Swap), and he is planning on expanding their business to carry more types of hardware. I'd check him out; dealt with him in the past and he was good to deal with.
SaltyQuestions replied:
Thanks for all the answers everyone, I will check those places out!
RustyRobots replied:
Windsor west end and north end have a really nice exotic wood selection. They can probably help track something down for you too.
Can anyone recommend a good furniture store in Edmonton for a new dining room set?
Lisa A. replied:
I'll check it out right now. Thanks! You're not the first person to tell me that Lisa lol. United furniture warehouse is another bad one, but they're brick affiliated so not shocking.
