If you're looking for peer support while managing your illness, check out the closed Facebook group Mental Health Matters Edmonton. It's a group for people living with mental illness that offers friendship and support. Xoxo

Dr McManus is my psychiatrist and is at college plaza. He is covered by Alberta Health Cafe and will monitor meds, refer to programs as necessary and does ask questions about how you're doing but does do traditional talk therapy session. Most psycholog ists are 45-55 minute times slots. You can sometimes request a two hour appointment but I assume you would then be paying for two hours. Not sure of you availability but there are several group therapy day programs through the hospitals. They do require a referral. You could check out PPHP, POP, DBT, Advanced skills, to name a few.

Callingwood Crossing Clinic is accepting new patients and walk-ins right now. They have 4 GPs, a nutritionist, and a therapist on site. I'm not sure if the latter is a psychologist or a counselor though, their website is very much out of date (edit: their website is not working at all right now), but either way, it indicates that they take mental health seriously. They also have a door right into the pharmacy next door, which is convenient. The only downside is that they don't have enough support staff for how busy it is (tbh I haven't heard of a single clinic in Edmonton that doesn't have this problem), so it can be hard to get someone on the line in the first place, but keep trying. The doctors are good. (780) 444-0350

Alberta HealthLink (811) has information of which doctors are accepting new patients. I used it a couple years ago after my GP died, of all things, and the clinic said "PFO go find your own doctor." I found a clinic near home that has Nurse-Practitioner. She is awesome. Best family care I've had, great about making and following up on referrals. Anything they aren't trained for, they refer. NP is someone who was a registered nurse (ie does a lot of the hard work!) who goes back and takes more school and training, can give scripts, referrals, tests, the works. Good luck!
