It depends on the kind of ants, Maria. If they're carpenter ants, you almost have to have it done professionally. Because of how they nest, you need to have a stronger pesticide than is available over the counter. All baseboards inside need to be treated, and the entire perimeter of the foundation of your house outdoors (and outside it needs to be done every thirty days starting as soon as the weather breaks in spring until late fall.) Most of the OTC remedies overstate their ability to transfer from ant to ant, and that's key in eliminating them. If you have pavement ants, you need to treat in your basement, high up on the foundation block, all around the inner perimeter, and around plumbing fixtures, tubs, showers and sinks. (I think General Exterminating charges $160 for pavement ants) General Exterminating does a great job, if you decide to get a pro to do it (and if it's carpenter ants, have it done professionally, because they can do tens of thousands of dollars in damage to your home). General also sells an OTC remedy called Cy-Kick which is the best you can get without a license - and works fantastic for pavement ants. Good luck, Maria.

I've used Da' Bigman, Pest Control Services in Dacono 303-833-3406. A father and son business. They don't require contracts, etc. I didn't have carpenter ants but I've been very satisfied with their work. Mention my name if you happen to use them.
