Optometrists don't use x-rays, mainly because your eye doesn't have a bone or hard surface (e.g., teeth) in it. That makes me question your assessment of what is "useless.". You probably mean a retinal scan, which can be useful diagnosing something like glaucoma. However, I have also gone to MyEyeDr for years, in several locations, and they have NEVER done this scan without informing me that it would cost extra. I am not sure what other services they would have offered for the exam. Where MyEyeDr will try to get you is with the eyeglasses. I have often taken my prescription and gotten glasses elsewhere - Costco, Warby Parker, etc.
