Depending on your will to drive, there are acceptable prices over at The Range in Swindon, or massive clearance sales at Chilton's Wyevale at the moment

Not Millets or Lechlade as they are very expensive. You can buy shrubs (low maintenance, often evergreen), perennials (come every year, can be low maintenance), hardy annuals (things you put out now for one year only) or annuals (will die at a whisper of frost. You can buy them as seeds, plug plants (tiny, cheap), tray plants (larger, more expensive) and as pot plants (most expensive of all, price goes up the bigger the pot is). For example, a packet of cosmos is £1.99 with about 100 seeds. A pot with about 5 plants in will be about £7. For summer colour I'd look for a couple of packets of seeds that don't need to be sown indoors or in a greenhouse (look on the back of the pack) and just sow them where you want them, begonias and petunias - they flower for months on end and need no maintenance. If you aren't too much on clay, put a few bulbs in (really this should have been done in autumn but hey). If you can find somebody knowledgeable at Brampton or Charlton garden Centres and tell them what you're looking for, what you would like to achieve and your budget they will be pleased to help. Also try Faringdon Cottage Gardeners on fb - lots of good gardening advice. Good luck!
I just wanted to say a huge and public 'Thank You' to Jo for the absolutely amazing flowers.
They are perfect in every way, I can't get my head around how beautiful...
