Can anyone recommend a restaurant in Glendale (or vicinity) that will be serving Thanksgiving dinner? I'll be in town for Thksg and we can't really cook the meal this...

My parents and I go to Shalimar Diner in Rego Park on 63 rd Drive and Austin Street. Take 80 th Street to Dry Harbor Road and make a right on Penelope Avenue and just follow Penelope as it turns to 63 rd Drive, keep going on 63 rd Drive until you get to the diner. They have a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner: cider, appetizer, soup, salad, a choice of about 15-20 main courses, coffee and dessert for approximately $25 per person. My Mom usually has the turkey (and there is enough that you can take home leftovers). I usually have the duck. Delicious and plentiful food.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, the Milleridge Inn in Jericho is wonderful for Thanksgiving dinner. Then afterwards, you can walk through the little shoppes in their village.
Arlene M. replied:
Milleridge Inn is a wonderful restaurant that is very beautifully decorated. I still highly recommend Shalimar Diner, since it's closer and probably less expensive. But Milleridge Inn is beautiful, has good food, and their weekday luncheon prices are very reasonable. So if you happen to be staying in town and go there the following Monday (I suspect they might be closed on the day after Thanksgiving), you'd get a great deal!

Re: The Milleridge - The main dining room, for menu dinner, does not take reservations. You are seated as you show up on Thanksgiving. We did that one year and the weather was bad and the wait was uncomfortable. The Cottage does a buffet dinner and does take reservations. We did that the next time and we loved it! It was wonderful and we are doing it again this year. I highly recommend it!

Edison Place on Cooper Avenue in Glendale.

go to opentable.com and type in November 22 nd. Looks like only 2 restaurants open in Glendale on that day. But Forest Hills has a lot of selection. Good luck!

Try Edison Place

"Chalet Alpina" on Metropolitan Ave in Woodhaven if they're open on Thanksgiving? http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/chalet-alpina/
Rita M. replied:
Love Chalet Alpina, too!
Robert H. replied:
Chalet Alpina is at Metropolitan Ave & 70 th Ave, only 5 blocks east of Woodhaven Blvd

I've been there a few times. The food is good (although my friend's father got sick after eating pork), but if I remember correctly, at least on Christmas Eve several years ago, everything was a la carte, so you even had to pay extra for potato and vegetable. I remember having Wiener Schnitzel with spaetzel that was very good.
Hello all: Can anyone suggest a nice venue that would be appropriate for a Celebration of Life? Looking for a place that would be amenable to serving finger sandwiches...

We used Villa D'Este on Jericho Tpke (which I'm sure most in this group are familiar with) for our daughter's baptism last Fall, on a Saturday afternoon. The food/service was great, and the nice thing about having it on a Sat afternoon is that technically, they're only open from 5 p-11 p, and will open for private parties during the day. That said, we had the entire place to ourselves, and the bathrooms are handicap/wheelchair accessible if needed.
