Good evening, I was wondering if anyone in our community here could direct me to an online source for sacs, pen pliers, shellac, etc. I have been watching various You...

I got most of my stuff from Richard Binder (a superstar repair person), but he has stopped selling supplies to focus on repairs. He recommends Indy-Pen-Dance, so I would trust them on Mr. Binder's word. One of the problems I had starting up is that there is no one-stop shop fore everything you need. Some places have plenty of sacs and shellac and vice versa, but no sac extraction tools, for example. To some extent, you have to shop around. The good news is that the proprietors with whom I've interacted (not that I'm an expert) are all good, reasonable people. I am not that far past the lever filler repair phase, but learning the basics of fixing them is a lot of fun and I really want to try somewhat harder repairs in the future. (Nothing crazy, though.) Another great thing about fixing fountain pens (especially "easy" ones like lever fillers) is that you can get a nice amount of your gear from the dollar store. Penlights, sponges, sets of tiny screwdrivers, clear ammonia, a bulb syringe, gripping squares, etc. It's worth getting the slightly more expensive sac extraction picks and pen polish and everything else, but a lot of the very basic pen repair is relatively inexpensive. Oh, and consider getting Da Book from Frank DuBiel. Before he passed, Mr. Dubiel assembled a very helpful book of repair techniques and philosophies. (Just be careful, as 10% of his advice is slightly out of date.) http://www.indy-pen-dance.com/

Dear Kenneth, have small pen collecting hobby since retirement and love to read about and look at them since retiring 3 yrs ago...I would call companys like parker, omas, edison, fountain pen hospital, levenger ect...they may be of assistance, as would sbre Brown, Matt Armstrong from the pen habit. I will look at indi pen dance. Fountainpensacs.com does have just about everything though, Kenneth Nichols. You may want to give them a look. Thanks to both Kenneth, and Richard for the advice!
