Gary C. replied:
Please don't forget Gay's Taxi Service. Mr. Gay was the nicest old fellow . . . he would need a tire fixed and come around to ARCO. I don't think Mutt ever charged him a dime to fix a flat. Those were the good times.
Mark K. replied:
Who remembers Franklin Bus Co? The Short Green & White buses that went Hunterdale to The River Bridge and all around the City. It must've been 1971-73?
Richard L. replied:
Ezra Jenkins owned a taxi in 1972 & Holland Ricks also had his own taxi, Ricks Taxi.
Eddie T. replied:
I would think that might have been Mr. Branch. He was older of the 3 men that drove for Mr. Cobb.
Brenda M. replied:
Madison Eley worked at Gees grocery we dated back in high school.
Other than the A&P on Liberty St. we're there any other large grocery stores in Franklin in the mid 50s?
Ellen W. replied:
The A&P originally located on 13 th St. moved from there to where the YMCA is now, that used to be a junk yard. From there they moved to where Shop & Save is located now.
Tom A. replied:
I do not believe the Y is where the junk yard was. Not right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The site of the current Shop & Save was the site of the junk yard. James Lumber also occupied a portion of that site.
Tom A. replied:
Loblaws was located at 13 th & Chestnut St. I lived on Chestnut at the time. It later became an IGA. The A&P was located where the YMCA is now. Riverside was at 9 th and Liberty. I think that location is now the VFW. The Shop and Save currently on Buffalo St used to be a scrapyard. And the grocery store on Grant St used to be a Super Duper I think.
