It pulls the undercoat out, which I thought sounded painful, but my vet says it's only loose hair that comes out and the animals usually like it. Just don't press too hard because it's metal. You would not believe the fur that comes off. One of my cats actually looks smaller after I use it! http://www.furminator.com
