I need some help. Here is my scenario, and I don't want any political comments, just advice on a solution if you know of one. Thanks!
(1) We have medical insurance.

Adam, per some of the other comments above, you can use a site such as http://www.brighter.com/ to find much lower, previously negotiated fees with dentists in your area.

I do dental claims and have for 12 years now. Pediatric dentistry sometimes is filed as a regular dental claim but either way, unless you foresee major issues with dental it is ALWAYS cheaper to pay out of pocket. And Aetna discount plan is the #1 best bang for your buck when it comes to discount plans but they also do not make a dent in saving you money if it is just for cleanings.
Joshua H. replied:
Adam this is a great question. Keep in mind that a lot of the Dental Discount plans are agents or resellers of other programs. I know this because I am a partial owner of a Prescription Benefits Manager. If I were looking for a dental plan outside of my normal coverage I would directly contact http://www.careingtonbenefitsolutions.com/ They are based out of Dallas, TX and this is their program they are not a reseller. If you want vision go to www.vsp.com that is who I used 215 for year and that included Michelles coach glasses, and dr. visit. Good luck hope you find what you are looking for. If you need help on prescription let me know I can help there also.

We have BlueDental Choice Plus with BCBS. It covers our whole family, affordable, covers pediatric (even the sealant they put on children's teeth now to prevent cavities), and ortho. I've track premium cost vs. what we would have pd out-of-pocket on a spreadsheet for three years and thus far we're ahead with having the coverage. I did that because so many ppl told me dental coverage wasn't worth the cost, but I would have to say that would be based on your premium and family’s needs; and some “needs” we weren't expecting. Hope it all works out for you and the family.

Adam Bishop. Call me, I saw both sides of this at the dentist office.

When we moved to NC, I lost my dental plan I had at work. We go to the tech school for cleanings...10.00 a cleaning including other things like x-rays, etc. We use a plan through Dentalplans.com for other things. It is a discount plan that only costs about 150.00 per year. They have a list of dentists that provide the discount. They do vary so check out the prices before you select a dentist. Since they off a family plan, I assume it has pediatric care. When we were in Augusta, GA, we got Melodie's braces through the Medical College of Georgia and she had the premier orthodontist in the area overseeing her work since he taught there. Any dental schools around? Perhaps Emory. I have done the math for us...two old fogies, and since the plan is so cheap, even when we need work done it balances out. Not sure if this would be true for kids. I'll pray about this that the Lord leads you to the right decision. I Completely understand the issue. PS...check out the list of dentists on the plan before you purchase at dentalplans.com. Some places have a good selection and others dcon't

Go to dentalplans.com - you can get affordable dental savings plans there. You don't always save as much as you would with regular insurance, but it's what I had for the years between leaving my job that provided dental and marrying my husband and getting on his dental plan.

Also...check Cigna dental. Its who we use through lowes.
Random question but anyone know an insurance company that individually covers handbags(like they would for jewelry)??
Shelly W. replied:
Aww, that stinks. I told Samantha about the post, feel free to call her or send her an email. Maybe she can work something out. staff.ddykes@farmersagency.com Good luck :)
Jerilyn F. replied:
Mary Lambertha - after 22 years with them, I couldn't get them to issue a separate rider for my high-dollar items. I was told everything went under the basic homeowner or renter's policies. If you have an awesome agent - share him/her -I don't dislike SF (I was with them for 22 years!) and if you have someone who can work successfully within the SF system, then people need to know about your jewel!
