Do you want dayhikes or overnight backpacking routes? First you need to get the Brown hiking book that details all the trails in the park. Then look at Alum Cave Bluff to Le Conte and the AT from Newfound Gap to Charlies Bunion -- two of the most classic hikes in the park.

Glad you finally had a good time! And I was tickled to see you try the Smokies alternative House Mountain near Knoxville. There is an absolute ton of hiking in the Knoxville area that is NOT the park. A lot of it very different from the Smokies, and so a nice break ... but a lot of it very similar to the Smokies too but where you can take your pets! I think it's good to mix Smokies and non-Smoky hiking when you're in the area.
