From our friend J. Scott Graham: Like millions of people I enjoy Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Part of the reason we enjoy such a great destination is because of rangers and other park staff who preserve, protect and promote the Smokies. Unfortunately, recent wildfires have destroyed homes for some of the park's personnel and dedicated volunteers. In an effort to help them rebuild, I am donating $5.00 from the sale of every Great Smoky Mountains National Park 2017 Calendar during the month of December to a fund set up by Great Smoky Mountains Association to help victims rebuild their homes. Please join me in this effort by purchasing calendars for friends and family at jscottgraham.com or by calling (423) 341-9463. You may also donate directly to the fund at http://conta.cc/2gGkIln
Suggestions, please..... Heading to the Smokies next weekend to do some hiking. My wife is now a budding photographer who wants to try out some new bells and whistles...

As mentioned above, it's hard to beat Porters Creek in early April. Here is my trail report with description, maps and plenty of wildflower pictures: http://internetbrothers.org/2015/04/02/porters-creek-trail-to-fern-branch-falls-great-smoky-mountains-national-park/

Chestnut Top trail is also a wildflower wonderland this time of year. You get a lot of bang for your buck in the first mile.

I agree. Cades Cove has numerous spots for pictures. You might be able to spot some wildlife there, too.

I use my phone, Samsung Note 4, I have a small Cannon SD, Nikon point and shoot. Kristina Plaas is correct. Good luck.

Canon PowerShot SX720. Been using it for several months and love it. True point and shoot with 40 x zoom. Kinda pricey and I'd spring for the extended warranty since it's more delicate than I'd prefer for outdoorsyness... but I definitely recommend Canon.

My husband and I live four hours away, work full-time and have two small kids. We don't get to come often but we make it our priority to visit 3-4 times a year. We drive up on Friday, hike all day Saturday and then try to sneak a quick hike in on our way out of town on Sunday. We stay in super cheap hotels and love coming up in the off season because everything is so inexpensive and much less crowded. Our last trip in February included a nice dinner at The Peddler, shopping at the day hiker, breakfast at the Pancake Pantry and a trip the the Ole Smokey Candy Store. With all of that and our room we spent less than $350. We typically give these trips to each instead of traditional items. We always do a trip for Valentine's day, our anniversary and our birthdays.
Photographer friends! I am going to Cades Cove tomorrow for sunrise and I have never been there to shoot. Any particular spots you would suggest to shoot? Thank you!
Anyone have recommendations for a photographer who will hike to LeConte for engagement photos and not charge an arm, leg, and my future first born? I know photographers...
