In tying-up the muscles are in an isometric spasm. Jack Meagher in Beating Muscle Injuries for Horses recommends that the external abdominal oblique (partially responsible for them being unable to move the hindlegs backwards) and the ascending pectoral (restricting the forward movement of the front legs) be treated.
