We went to Zur Kate once, and it was nice. http://www.zurkate.com/ Very casual, not fancy at all. Waitress was in a cute (authentic, not sexy) Bavarian type dress/costume. They did have live music though, one man playing a guitar I think. Maybe it was some other instrument, I don't really remember, we only heard one tor two songs before he quit. In the same shopping complex was Bavarian Point. http://www.bavarianpoint.net Did not go inside, from the outside it looked more like a "cool bar" type place. Both in Mesa, haven't been out that way in a long while, but the websites are still up, so hopefully the restaurants are also still in operation.

I like Takamatsu Korean Japanese on 47 th and Peoria I think? It's a bit hole in the wall but the sushi is unbelievable and if you want to do something while you wait they bring you your food and you cook it at your table if you're looking for a conversation starter.
