I would highly recommend Hurstbrook Golden Retrievers near Chichester. Our girl is nearly 3 years now and we've had no problems with her whatsoever - healthy, beautiful temperament, great with the children, we love her to bits. Expect to wait though as they don't have litters often but I can say it's well worth the wait. Also I advise to do your research so you fully understand what you're taking on with owning a Golden - think lots of shedding and a wet/muddy dog after every walk, they need a lot of exercise and company too and are an expensive breed to own. If you can accommodate all those demands then a super breed to own. http://www.hurstbrook.co.uk/index.htm

Sean, there is a very good breeder down in Sompting -www.wylanbriar.com - they have a litter due end of Feb. They are keep list of Stud Litters, which is where we got ours, the litter was in Kent though. Its best to travel far in order to get a good if no local breeders around. Look at Kennel Club Assured Breeders tho too.

Sean, can highly recommend the golden retriever breeder we bought ours from over 4 years ago. Not Horsham, but North Lancing, so not far away. Her website seems to be down but I am still in touch with her: Hilary Male, Malenbrook Golden Retrievers (www.malenbrook.co.uk), Tel: 01903 767582

Definitely Wylanbriar Labradors, Di Stevens is one of the most knowledgeable people in the breed you will find and all her dogs are health tested and have fantastic temperaments, she does field trials, training, showing and judging as well. The pup will come with her full back up and she is an Assured breeder as well. Her website is the best for labs and dog info you will find.

Golden retrievers - I know a thing or two about these and indeed I am a descendant of the breed's 19 th century creator. I'm not entirely au fait with everyone who is breeding them in this part of the world, but I would urge you to be very careful, as most that I see have misshapen skulls and hips (the latter of which can cause a lot of pain for the dog and shorten its lifespan). The legendary Horley-based breeder Joan Tudor used to be very good, but I've encountered some of hers which suffer equally badly from this. It comes down to a lack of discrimination in picking breeding dogs and too much in-breeding. The best examples I see come from the north-east of Scotland, whence the breed originated. I suggest you email the blind organist David Liddle through his website - http://www.davidliddle.org/ - as he has a magnificent GR guide dog, Doge, who I recall being told came from a breeder in Carnoustie - but I know not which of three breeders listed in that village! DL may be able to help you.
Still trying to find a reliable gardener who will answer phone or email and turn up anyone help ?
