Dog Trainer Recommendations? Hey guys, so this past weekend I got a puppy (8 week old Australian Shepherd). I was looking online around Charlotte for dog training...

I’m bringing home an Aussie pup in two weeks. Maybe we will see y’all around town.

It depends what kind of training you want. If it’s just basic obedience and socialization, puppy training classes at petsmart are probably good enough. Charlotte dog training club is good too, probably better than pet store classes. But it’s a complete pain in the ass to register, not enough availability. Dog wizard was great for one of our dogs with more serious training needs but it’s one of the expensive AF ones

Jake Humphries with Union Dog Training. We are on our second dog with Jake. He is less than 2 k and offers lifetime training with your dog, and actually honors it. After we got our puppy, we brought our older dog back for additional training on things that got rusty and better interaction with a new dog. He trains for general obedience and generally tried to make all dogs comfortable and competent off-leash

Hilton Hounds. They recently rebranded but we had our dog trained through them and enjoyed the classes. We took our pup 1 x a week for 8 weeks (this was pre- COVID but they have safety precautions in place now, including some outside options) and learned basic commands. There are a couple of levels of classes too, if you wanted to keep progressing further.

Just started using Sara Ondrako. I like her vids and we're in week two of an 8-week program. Nothing but good things to say at this point. https://youtube.com/c/SaraOndrako Edit: added YT linky and I spell gooder.

An Aussie pup? We need pictures!
We have an almost three year old Aussie, who we've had for almost 2 years. He's a sweetheart and something of a goofball, but a bit rambunctious, as Aussies can be. We have been working with Courtney at Steadfast Dog Training...

He went to a two-week board and train session last summer, after which we had several individual lessons together. Since then we have been attending group training sessions, usually an hour at a local park where we can reinforce his training and work on areas that still need some attention. It did run about $2K, but the difference in just those two weeks was amazing, and he has continued to progress. If you do contact Courtney, tell her Jake the Aussie sent you.
As I said, we've had him almost two years, and my girlfriend had another Aussie before him, so we're quite familiar with the breed. I wish you all the best with your new Aussie, they really are wonderful dogs!
This is Jake...

The Dog Knowledge in Charlotte has done amazing things for our dogs and our family. They're up there in the price range you mentioned, but it's a 4-week board and train program, and definitely worth it in the long run.

Jason Toy at Canine Scholars is the man you want to see. I did my research and whatnot, and I feel the package they offer was the best value. You pay $1500 which includes once a month training for your puppy until the age of 7 months. At 7 months they introduce the "shock collar" (worth about $200 alone) which isnt really a painful shock, just gets their attention and the sessions become weekly. The ultimate goal is to be able to walk off leash with your dog. Our 8 month old Rotti has already picked up and learned so much. Sit, lay down, paws, stay, place, etc. It is incredible to see him work with the dog and how fast she picks up on what he is trying to teach her. They also offer the doggy camp where your dog goes with them for a few weeks, but I feel that it is important to do with the dog instead. You learn how to do everything first hand, as well as bond with dog. I 100% recommend reaching out to him.

Just had our first puppy class of 6 at Camp Bow Wow last night. It's a big chain with a few locations in Charlotte. It went pretty well! $133 I think for the 6-week course. Worth it just for the socialization at this point, when your puppy is too young to have the vaccinations need to go to the dog park, etc.
Affordable dog training? I need some recommendations for a good trainer as it's around that time for my pup and I'd like to iron out any current issues he has. I live in...

Upstate Dog Training Blue Ridge SC just past Spartanburg offers in kennel for around $500. We’ve used Jill for 25 years at least. http://www.upstatedogtraining.com/
