How easy are Metcalfe kits to build? Any tips for a first time builder? What sort of glue/equipment will I need?

Got a bit of a Metcalfe addiction going on. I'm building kits that I don't even need yet just because I find them so relaxing to build. I use Stanley scalpels and Citadel PVA (as I have a cheap source) and a small brush. I've got a set of technicolour felt pens from Poundland to shade the card edges (only a quid, obviously). For sticking them down, I cut a template out of normal cardboard to the inner dimensions and glue that in place before gluing the Metcalfe to that (obviously doesn't work if track is going through it). Don't do them drunk. The windows on my engine shed are a bit wonky...

I'm printing some builder stuff I got from scalescenes. Does anybody know the best thing to coat the printed sheets with to stop them from fading please?
Sorry if I'm repeating a post, but one of my N problems remains.
My early Poole Farish class 20 with brass gears is a hottie. Not in a good way though, it gets roasting...
