Dentist or Optometrist
I need recommendations on an English speaking dentist or optometrist in and around Gwangju. Phone numbers would be appreciated too!
Thanks!

Dr. Kim Gi Sik Office is right downtown in front of the old provincial office near Lotteria. He speaks excellent English and is very cool. He also is prety up to date so it should be a fairly painless visit. His phone number is 062 227-2897.

Maybe call them to see if the English speaking dentist is available today. Their number is 062-351-4114 or 062-351-3113. Take your ARC with you, most of the things are covered by health insurance, assuming you have that :) good luck!

Chosun University Dental Hospital also good, more pricy than most though. Plenty of English speakers very willing to practice ;)
Lorryn S. replied:
Rani Cheema I go to a dentist in Sinchang... She can speak enough English to tell you what's wrong and what needs to be done and the guy at the front desk is almost fluent. Their telephone number is 067-9592804 and to get there you can tell a taxi driver Sinchang-dong Buyeong Apartments (sam-cha) it's across a mart on the second floor
Stel D. replied:
I would recommend Dong-A Hospital. I met three doctors there who can speak English. One in the ER (don't ask, long story) around 4 AM. Anyway, i am not sure who they are, but i only go there if and only if i have an emergency situation as it is right across the street of my house. The catch: It's in Bae-goon Dong, about an hour and 20 minutes from Cheomdan.
Tamara L. replied:
There's a great doctor within walking distance from the Cheon Dae Dental Hospital (CNUDH) so you could see the dentist and the doctor in one afternoon if you want! Here's the map between both:http://goo.gl/maps/cNw0S (ignore the bus route suggested on this link and just walk - it'll take all of 10 minutes) Dr. Kang's office is on the 5th floor and I think it's called GeoMed Clinic (maybe Body & Soul Clinic - they changed their sign recently). He and his assistant speak fluent English - no appointment required. He's a pain management doc primarily, but can see you for anything and he's a great starting point if you need a referral to a specialist anywhere else. His office provides full physicals for women, but the kind of physicals we're accustomed to in the US are not covered by national insurance. The most expensive it would be is 200,000W and you can opt out of certain tests and make it cheaper if you want. As for Dr. Lee (the dentist at CNUDH), you can call him at 062.530.5700 if you absolutely have to - but as mentioned by someone else, no appointment is necessary at his office. He's super friendly, though, and will answer any questions you have.
Tamara L. replied:
On the map I provided ^ A is the dental hospital and B is GeoMed Clinic. FYI
DENTIST RECOMMENDATIONS: Semi-English speaking preferable, nothing serious just a deep cleaning needed (below the gum line). Thanks!
Michelle K. replied:
Mediphil Center Dentistry by U-square. It's very affordable, they accept health insurance, the dentist speaks English, and the staff are used to dealing with foreigners.
Raza M. replied:

Áine B. replied:
Boston Dental Clinic - is great. The dentist and staff have great English. It's just up from Malbau market (near the park). They're meant to be the best in Gwangju, teeth cleaning cost 18,000won. +82 10-5880-9274

Easyplant dental was great. Dr han had amazing english and was really nice
I know there have been lots of posts on dentists, but can anyone give me an idea of the cost of a regular filling based on their experience?
Lauren N. replied:
I read that dental will be covered by National Health Insurance from the 1 st of July, so if you have insurance try and hold out till then- it will be waaay cheaper! ;)
Das B. replied:
Lauren, dental has always been part of the national Health Insurance.
Lauren N. replied:
Ok, but then what exactly is this article about then? *Obviously I'm going on what was said about it by someone who translated it.* ;) http://health.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2013/06/14/2013061402148.html
Doesn't anyone have the Dentist"s info by U-Square? (I know it's been written here a bunch of times) also, do you know if he does wisdom tooth extraction?
Patrick W. replied:
I went to see Dr. Lee yesterday! (there's actually 3 dentists, all of them Dr Lees) I can't comment about your wisdom teeth, because I had something else done, but he's BY FAR the best dentist I've visited in the Korea. Explained everything, took his time, and did an excellent job.
Patrick W. replied:
Also, if you search "dentist" in this group, the first posting that comes up shows a picture of Dr. Lee and talks about him and his clinic.
Hello,
Where can I find a good dentist for removing wisdom teeth? Is it cheaper in Korea than in America?
Where is a good place to get a pair of glasses? I heard...
William U. replied:
I got my wisdom teeth taken out at "Mediphil Centre" right across from U-Square. It was 20 000 won per tooth and the dentist speaks English pretty well.

Chosun Dental Hospital is pretty good. Good price, friendly staff.
Has anyone gotten their teeth cleaned or a cavity filled at the Chonnam dentist? If so, how much was it? I think I have a cavity and I want to get it filled.
Carleigh H. replied:
I emailed Dr Lee about that not too long ago and he said he could do simple or small tooth colored fillings for 120-150,000, and there is another specialist in his office that can do them for 180,000.
