You don't have to attend a preschool in your district, but having done both with my children (one in the district and one not), being in the district is helpful. The teachers are usually knowledgable about the district's requirements for kindergarten so that your child is well prepared. Level Green Presbyterian has a preschool program as well. PT doesn't have a lot of options. Penn Pals on Paintertown did a great job preparing my child...and the teachers were awesome.
Need really good recommendations for a preparatory preschool program **NOT** a daycare program, but something that prepares for preschool. My son is currently in a prep...

As a teacher, I highly recommend Early Foundations Academy right by Harrison Park Elementary. The owners are teachers who have aligned the curriculum to Penn Trafford's. They mix the right blend of learning/academics with play and hands on lessons that are developmentally appropriate for young learners. I personally know them and if my children were younger they would be going there.

PRE-K Partners Mrs. Andrea Dolecki is the teacher there. Little school house on the right just past downtown Harrison City on Rt. 130 going towards Jeannette. She takes kids that are four, the year before entering Kindergarden. LOVE HER! All four of my daughters went to her. We also used The Ark at Community United Methodist Church for the three year old program. They are great too! Good luck!
