There are largely 2 options - German ones which almost all have a chunk the patient contributes themself before the insurance will kick in or non-German ones where the insurance covers everything UP TO a certain point in the hundreds of thousands or milliobs (eg BUPA) - no German health insurance broker will tell you about these as they simply don't reflect the German cultural attitude for safety but as far as I know they can still work here, I was legally insured here BUPA for many years. In terms of the big German ones, AOK is the largest and is fine.
