Does anyone remember Viewmont Food Center, Hobbs Barber Shop, Regal Manufacturing, and the laundromat being located on Hwy 127 in the Viewmont section of Hickory in the...
Melinda M. replied:
Regal Mfg was my first factory job right out of high school (96') worked at this particular plant my last year. It's a shame they closed. Great company to work for that cared about it's employees.
Linda M. replied:
My brother Ken Pless worked at Viewmont Food Center and married the boss's daughter. Rochelle Morrison. I don't have any pictures.
Bill D. replied:
I went to school with the owner's son, Micky Morrison. They were always an extremely nice family. I remember their father very well. I remember they lived in a house on Hwy 127. If I remember correctly, it was in the area near where BB & T bank in Viewmont is now. Micky ran Viewmont Camera. I don't know if he's still in business or not.
Linda M. replied:
Bill Duffey Viewmont Camera is not in business. Not sure what Mickey is doing now. Rochelle passed away about 7 years ago.

Menzie Morrison rolled the dice and put beer in the store a few years before I went to work for him. He told me he sold x number of dollars worth of beer but lost near the same amount in gross sales. At least one local firebrand preacher told his flock they should shun the store, and apparently a lot heeded him. We kept the beer in a walk in cooler so it wouldn't offend the pious. I also started work after the big raise when a bag boy- cashier's pay went from 35cent to 50 cent per hour.I liked and respected Mr. Morrison but co-owner, Ed Pitts played a major part in hanging the moon. I can shut my eyes right now and see that smile. I stayed with them through High School and a year after. There were probably 20 people who worked there during my four years there. Most of them went to Claremont Central.

Use to stop at Viewmont Food Center for fish bait on way to the lake. A dime's worth of Shrimp would last all day. They had a great selection of fresh seafood.
