Go to Uncle Roberts Wednesday night. All kinds, lots of venders. Like we had three different chefs lau lau, vegan Samoan dishes, Coconut (that I pour a shot of rum into), and Lehua Cafe is there, and pulled pork, smoked meat, maybe a dozen food venders. And plenty good times with Awa Band.

Makuu Farmers Market in Puna on Sundays has a bunch of food and other vendors. Not in Hilo but great spot to visit. Besides food as an activity you can get a free sailing lesson from the Hilo Sailing Club on the first Sunday of each month. http://www.hilo-sailing.org

Sugar Shack or Brain Freeze for Shave Ice (or Ice Shave as some Hilo folks call it). Big Island Candies for both the free samples and to buy goodies.

You really can't find bad Thai, my Ohana is typical hapa haole mix ethnically and with meat eaters, and vegans, so we go everywhere, especially Asian, and for local favorites Hawaiian Style Cafe is really good (breakfast of seared Ahi and eggs!)...
