After a week of no heat (using emergency heat strips) it has been determined that we need a new HVAC system. Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonable priced local...

Matt Wilhite, Chase Howell, with Kim Wilhite. They come quickly and are honest!

Jane, we use Service Experts …… not sure what to say - we have a love/hate relationship with them. They get here quickly and fix stuff but every technician they send seems to disagree with the one before ….

Foskey Heating and air. When other companies were going to charge me for an $800 part, they told me it was still under warranty and ordered me a new one. I only had to pay labor. I was super impressed with their honesty.

Chuck Jureka always put in my systems...but may be getting out of it now. He was very reasonable---wanted 1/2 to order and other half later. Took this process 2 days. Never a problem. Used him for all my properties. Last install was 2011 ish.

Jane ... if you're going to bite the bullet & get a new system, I strongly recommend having Jamie Kaye (Elm Energy) to test for air leakage, remediate & run a Manual "J" (HVAC capacity) Calculation. Your system is probably based on 1 ton capacity for every 450-500 heated square feet (typical - divide sq' by current tonnage - you'll see) ... with adequate insulation and minimal air leakage, you should be at 1 ton capacity for every 1000+ sq'. Correct sizing of your system not only provides temperature comfort, but proper ventilation, indoor air quality, and dehumidification. Many techs, including some mentioned here, receive commission on upsizing & add-ons. Just because you currently have X tons, doesn't mean that is what you need! A properly performed Manual "J" can save you substantial money up-front, and in electrical bills throughout the life of the system.

Tim Gray at Gray's Heating. (It's a good idea to get two to three estimates, Jane.) Be well.
