I love the train system here and you can fill in gaps with buses. I would do something like this, feel free to modify: HCMC -Day trip to Mekong Delta -Day trip to Cu Chi Tunnels -At least two days to see major sites in Saigon Bus or Train to Mui Nhe (optional) -Enjoy the beach and relax -Bus or Train to Da Nang -Enjoy the beach and city 1 or 2 days -City bus to Hoi An -Beautiful city and has a nice beach, also a pretty good but expensive ($25 or so) island tour is available -Go to My Son!!! Really beautiful stuff there. -Bus to Hue -Dragon boat tour of tombs and pagodas (one day) -Day trip of war remnants sites -Day trip to citadel (do not miss the Imperial Collection Museum in my opinion) -Optional but encouraged: bus to Ninh Binh -Gorgeous nature to be seen here. I spent three days there and felt like I needed more. -You can then take bus to Hanoi -Plane to Hanoi -Two days to see sites here -Two/Three Day Cruise in Ha Long Bay (Don't miss Ha Long Bay!) -(Optional) Bus or train to Sapa -Beautiful mountains and culture -Fanzipan is wonderful but the cable car is very pricey (like $20) Hostels/cheap hotels run $7-$15 per night. Usually cheaper to book in person but you risk them being full. You can use Hotels.com or Agoda but even then I've showed up only to find they overbooked and have to send me somewhere else or just turn me away during busy times. -Food is typically quite cheap, especially if you like Viet food. Budget maybe $15/day and you're probably set to splurge now and then. -Drinking at local bars is quite cheap but clubs can be extremely expensive. -Train and bus tickets are quite cheap and you can get sleeper bus/train car to skip a night in a hotel. Other people may disagree but I find them quite comfortable and I sleep very well in moving vehicles. There are one-two fatal accidents on sleeper buses per month so beware. -Within cities you can rent motorbikes for $5-$7 per day, or you can use the Grab or Uber apps to hire motorbike or taxi rides. I love Grab. In smaller towns you'll have to rely on "xe om" (motorbike taxis) or taxis or buses, or hoof it. Most cities are very nice to see by bicycle which can usually be rented for $2-3 per day. -If you are comfortable riding a motorbike my favorite trip is Hoi An to Hue. Some extremely beautiful scenes there. I did Hoi An to My Son to Hue. But the last hour or so is all highway. -If you smile and act friendly, even when someone is ripping you off and you know it, everything will be fine. As soon as you get angry things go badly. Just be sweet and nice and if someone asks for too much money just laugh and walk away. They will call you back over with a more reasonable price, I guarantee. Good luck!!!

Hoi An is a beautiful place to visit. As for meeting others? Just be yourself, relax, stay positive, it will all fall into place. But one piece of advice be careful who you trust. Have fun young lady.

I honestly loved Vietnam. Food and accommodation is cheap, the people are friendly and it is a great place to kickback and relax. We traveled through the country for three weeks in December. Our root included Hanoi, Sapa, cat ba (Halong bay), Ninh Binh, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh. I still wish I could go back. You can read about our adventures if you want a more detailed view. http://www.globetrove.com/destinations/asia/vietnam_travel_blog/
Hi guys, is there anyone who can recommend me a nice budget hostel/hotel in Hanoi? Thank you!
Guus G. replied:
We stayed at Gecko Hotel (85 Hang Bac, Hoan Kiem), to be honest our room was a bit of a disappointment but for the price you can't really expect too much. There are quite some nice AirBnb's also, we stayed at https://www.facebook.com/1216154835083737 Annie's Little Hanoi which was really nice but a bit more expensive.

** Skype **
Hey everyone,
I'm leaving for Vietnam in a couple of days and was hoping to Skype with someone for my last questions.
It's mainly questions like: how do...
Sean F. replied:
Hey Sharon! I can't help you out with talking via Skype but if you're having any last minute nerves just relax and it will all work out! Find your first hostel online so you have a starting point (Hostelworld.com) then they will give you advice from getting to the airport to the hostel, shuttle will be about $15 and a local bus is about $3, this is for Hanoi anyway. Download maps.me on your phone and that will help a lot after you download Vietnam maps offline. Other than that once you're at the hostel ask people over a beer on travel advice and also the staff at the front desk, everything will work itself out! Safe travels!
