Professional swimming pools Can anyone recommend swimming pools for real swim training? I mean those that have only lanes and no slides etc.
Back in Europe, I was lucky...

Look up masters programs, that is what adult swim programs/clubs are called in the US. Some have meets as well.

The CISD Natatorium is one of the best in the state http://natatorium.conroeisd.net/ And U of Houston also has a world class facility.

UH has an olympic sized pool, but they only run the lanes long ways some mornings.

Depends on where you live to figure out what's closest. There are several 50 m pools around the greater Houston area. Most of them aren't open to the public for drop in swimming though, you'll have to join their respective masters programs through the club teams.

A masters program is def the way to go. This is the Gulf zone for USAS, and there are programs in every corner of the city, First Colony, Woodlands, Fleet, Rice, and as stated above, UH and prob more. Joining the program in your area gives you access to the pools and a coach. That way you're not competing with the kiddies at the Rec center pools.

I agree with all the posts recommending joining a masters program -- that is how you will get access to some of the nicest 50 m pools in town. However, if you're okay with 25 m pools -- many Houston YMCAs have lap-pools that are totally separate from the "play" pools -- for instance I know there are lap pools at Weekley Y, Trotter Y & Downtown (Tellespan) Y.

http://www.houstontx.gov/parks/aquatics.html This one has olympic size (or at least close to it): Sharpstown 713.272.3690 6600 Harbor Town, 77036 I think the rest are 25 yards pool. Edit: they used to put lane barrier across, so you have to swim under it. It is the dark line in line with the diving pool wall seen [here](https://www.google.com/maps/place/6600+Harbor+Town+Dr,+Houston,+TX+77036/@29.7068309,-95.5312573,80 m/data=!3 m1!1 e3!4 m5!3 m4!1 s0 x8640 c2 fad30640 b9:0 xfab03 a1 e00 baca50!8 m2!3 d29.7068267!4 d-95.5306034)

I've got 2 cousins building pools in Northwest Houston. Chris Whitlock owns Sundance Pools and Brian Whitlock owns Cypress Custom Pools. Feel free to drop my name and probably get a discount. Brian is very busy so if you want a pool in the next couple of months call Chris. If you need his number call me at 281-450-4052

I guess you have found a house? Good luck with that. We used Blue Haven years ago and they did a good job. A lot of them are a little shady.
