I'm totally down with styling it, I just don't know what wig to use as a base. I have yet to find one that has a nice side part and isn't like 3 feet long. I'm really trying for a very clean part, which I think there'd have to be a skin top for. Hit up a beauty supply store. The one on 45 and little York is a good one. Called Beauty Supply (next to food town). Also, you can re-part non-skin top wigs to be more clean, FYI. Skin top already styled like that though would be the best

I buy my wigs off of Amazon, but they're cheap and good for short wear. The better quality/more realistic wigs will be $100+ and some like /u/pancakeonmyhead said can go up to $300+. Mind you, those are probably geared toward cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemo, thus need a lifelike wig that is durable and can be worn for many hours.

I get mine from [Deal Extreme](http://www.dx.com/c/health-beauty-1799/wigs-1729). They're very soft and don't look fake and wiry. I wash mine first, then use some de-tangler and carefully brush it out.

Check out "beauty stores" in your area. Many African American women wear wigs so if you live in any but the smallest town there will be several shops in your area. And they are used to having guys come in to since your local drag queens probably shop there too! Bring three bucks for a wig cap and try some on. The display models are only the style. They usually have different Cora in the back. Expect to spend $35-50 for a decent quality wig. Alternately go on eBay and search for " lace front wig" and browse. Just be sure to search for US only.

Wigs vary greatly in price. You can get Kanekalon wigs that are adequate for occasional wear on eBay for $30-$50. If you want a really lifelike wig that you're going to wear whenever your'e awake, that'll cost quite a bit more, those can exceed $300.

Iv gotten three from amazon, all are "beginner" wigs and each cost between 10 and 20 bucks~! They are starting to show some wear and tear through tangles after 3-5 wears each and though i see things about them being brush-able... i wouldn't advise it. However for starting out, they are great. I now plan on investing in a slightly more expensive one. :)

I think if you've just started dressing you're better off going to eBay and picking up several different budget wigs to let you try different styles and colours until you find your match. Then once you know your match get something more expensive.

For any hair extension needs the cheapest on the west side is United Beaty supply right next to tailgaters on 59 th and bell they have the cheapest eye lashes too!! & you don't have to be licensed. For hair cuts I definitely recommend the cutters at my salon Toni & Guy at arrowhead

amazon actually has really cheap prices, however the two I bought from them were a bit on the thin side. [Dollux](http://www.dolluxe.com/) has good quality wigs for not bad prices. Otherwise I've previously had good luck in wig stores, they usually have a clearance area, plus then you can try them on.

I use ebay or Amazon and just make sure to read reviews and view buyer photos

If your main kicker is price, surf eBay. It'll be hit or miss, though. Some wig sellers are better than others, but I don't have a specific one to recommend.

Look for wigs made from Kanekalon. It is a heat-resistant fiber that makes good wigs. Can even be re-styled using flat or curling irons on lower heat.

noriko win hands down. buy a new one. it's worth it not to have a few that you never use. and in fact.......... the wig i use now i chose by saving up all my courage , dressing , and walking into a wig shop en femme. it was so easy really, there were two female assistants there , and they couldn't have made me feel more comfortable . needless to say , it wasn't local , it was out of town. But I got a great wig after trying loads on , got to try different styles, colours , and lengths , they trimmed the fringe for me and everything. It so happens that now I have three grade A wigs, and they're all norikos. if you can't face going into a shop, invest in one of them .
