Hello - wonder if anyone might have some tips for a beginner runner who has asthma and is overweight? I'd really like to begin exercising more but find gyms a little...
Claire B. replied:
Try Bedfont Lakes Parkrun on the Saturday's you're not working. It's at 9 am, I've gone a few times and really enjoyed it. I'll see if I can get a link to the Facebook page if someone doesn't get there first.
Sharon G. replied:
Helen - sorry I didn't answer your question re entrance. You will find the parkrun team opposite the Info Centre at the Clockhouse Lane entrance (opposite Princes).
Sharon G. replied:
Hi Helen:) There is the Couch to 5 km plan which is aimed at beginners who have never run before - I have done it a couple of times!! I will post some links on here for you. Also as Claire says there is also parkrun at Bedfont Lakes (and other parks) on a Saturday morning - I will also post the links below in a moment. I am the Event Director at Bedfont parkrun so if you want to come down one Saturday and walk the course (or 1 lap) then feel free - happy to have a chat with you as I know how daunting it can be - but Claire and others are proof that we don't eat our runners ;) Some of our new members will run walk the first lap (of 2) and over time they then increase it so that they can run 5 km (3 miles)

Helen, just go for it, take slow to start. The Bedfont Lakes parkrun is fab as many mention above. I started running 4 years ago at 38 years of age. I've just completed my 12 th marathon in 2012 and have enjoyed every moment and met lots of inspirational people along the way:)

After my holiday (beginning of September) i am looking at joining a GYM..... are there any recommendation with reasonable monthly prices? (local)
Fran P. replied:
Impulse is great, in Southwick Leisure Centre - in my view it's best to join whichever one is nearest to you otherwise you'll not bother to keep it up if it means sitting in traffic to get there
