Hi all! My wheaten terrier, Jake, suffers from some sort of allergy. He's constantly scratching his ears. I've taken him to our vet and he believed it is a food allergy....
Amanda S. replied:
Dr. Panich at LIVS in Plainview is amazing. You will need a referral from your primary vet to make an appt there. She recommended venison or kangaroo for my dog. We tried it, and at $100 a bag my dog didn't even like it. I use Earthborn holistic, Great Plains feast (it's bison)...go with a protein that is not mass produced like chicken or beef.
Amanda S. replied:
My vet ran the tests for me, however, if you decide on allergy shots they will take longer for the serum to be made up by LIVS. Don't know where you are located, but My Pets Vet in Huntington will do the blood work up for a reasonable price

I definitely recommend Dr. Panich at LIVS in Plainview and/or Dr. Marghoob and Dr. Klemenger at Companions Animal Hospital. They all helped my golden Jack who suffers from severe allergies!

Blue Buffalo is a great food to try in eliminating allergies. And Ive used trizultra + keto for ears. My retrievers with their big ears never have an issue.

Vets Choice Grain Free is supposed to be great for food allergies.

Wheatens are notorious for allergies. Maybe try blue brand, gluten free. I also run a dog pastry shop. Here is a link for gluten free treats. Good luck! https://www.etsy.com/listing/66109257/gluten-free-beef-potato-and-cheese

Tara Dawson O'rourke, please do NOT buy or promote Vets Choice products. The company owner sell puppy mill puppies at his Canine Corral pet store in Huntington. Ira Nierman owns both, as well as supporting the alleged holistic vet next door at the Animal Wellness Center. He is not holistic and has been fined by NYS three times so far. This info is all available online. Ira sells from Missouri puppy mills. USDA inspection reports are free online. The NYS Office of Professional licensing has the sanctions online, too. It's Dr. Burton Miller. They are horrible people operating on edge of legal and they know it.

These tests are a fortune and most likely not accurate. Trust me I've there for the past 10 years! Have spent couple of thousand on 3 of my dogs. Ended going back to the basics of my roots. I'm Brazilian and it's part of our culture to cook human food for dogs. They live long and healthy lives. The best would be raw but I don't trust the USFDA and nor what they feed these animals. We also eat junk trust me! I go organic and natural as much as I can. If you like to stick with kibble, I suggest you buy the best out there. ie. Orijen, Acana, Nature's Variety or Fromm all grain free. I changed my dogs' diet to homemade meals mixed with Orijen 6 fish flavor. Rule out beef, chicken, turkey, venison, bison for now and stick with fish. Allow at least 3 months to see results. My dogs have not had a hot spot, allergies (just the ones I can't control in the air in the Spring), year infecton and etc.. for the past 9 years! The oldest will be 10 and have never had to even have a teeth clean up!:) if you like feel free to call me! 6318603093- It will be a pleasure to help you further. I also post recipes on my Group and page Sue Bear Pupp and Pamper ur Poochie Club Group!
Does anyone know of any good vets in or near Huntington? I can't decide whether to go to Dix Hills, Island Vet Group, West Hills or Huntington Animal hospital. I know...

Isn't it a shame there are not more Vets like Dr. Jeff Rocky Mountain vet, where he is in it to HELP THE ANIMAL and THE OWNERS so the Pets have better lives, not the Dr's!

Delete this if not allowed.but does anyone know a decent priced vet in the Huntington area i can bring my dog to? Huntington animal hospital is way to expensive for...
Marcela F. replied:
Huntington Hospital told me my dog needed an operation. Two days later dog was fine, and lived rest of his life without another limping leg. My other lab had a huge tumor which nobody would even attempt to operate on. The only specialist who would said $4,ooo for operation, x-rays, blood tests, MRI's. Dr. Sameda at Banfield (in PetSmart) gave my girl a chance and operated for $1,ooo. She lived another 3 years and died at 15. The visits are like $50 bucks and they always tell you the costs first, and sometimes offer cheaper alternatives. I love them!
