Hobbs jewelers. The one in Athens where Steve Hobbs actually is has always been great. That is where I got my wife's diamond. Her setting I had made at through another jeweler that is no longer in business(retired). Also check Loring and Co. Everyone there is extremely nice and very knowledgeable.

I had good experiences at Reeds at Bridgestreet, very good folks. Ultimately we found my set at Litteman's at the Parkway mall. They are owned by Kroger so they often have really good sales. I had my wife's engagement ring made at Donny's Diamonds. He is wonderful to work with and does payments over the time it takes for him to make it (helpful for the budget).

I understand this doesn't answer the question but I contacted just about every store in the Huntsville area to compare cost to what I found online. Nobody would even come close in price the diamond quality I wanted. Ended up going with Bluenile.com and saved thousands.

I might be a bit biased because my mom works there, but Jimmy Smith Jewelers in Decatur is great. the few times I've had to buy jewelry (which isn't often), I found exactly what I wanted

I was very happy with Levy's in Birmingham. Their prices were about average, but the selection they have makes it easy to find something nice in the range you're looking for. The employees all seem to want to help in any way they can and they know their stuff. I was most impressed by their estate collections, so if you're looking for something unique with a little history, they might have it.

Online only (in ATL), but Topazery has fantastic, unique pieces. Seconding the recommendation for Levy's in Birmingham as well.

I'm a fan of the jewelry repair center over by target. The giant who works there is nice and helped me out a while ago.

Grogan's - they had several styles that were atypical to choose from and were great to work with for my husband. In bridge street. I've bought from them personally. They're very nice.
