Stay away from carX. I personally have had OK experience with midas... if u want a new engine when u leave lol they will fix anything dirty or with a tad of rust that works just fine. And you pay fairly hefty amount... ask for Ken in Iowa City if u venture there. (Only mechanic open on Saturday morning at 7 am. Maybe Sunday too I can't remember) I have never had to go back to complain about a repair they made. Always good and with Napa parts (kinda expensive tho) also with 5 guys working on my car it was done in 30 min vs. A repair that would take any normal repair a few hours to complete. Also just to add.... I go to linders in Iowa city for tires and brakes ect oil changes.... they are freaking awesome. My dad and grandpa have been going there for 30 plus years or more!! Ask for woody! He sits up front he knows everyone!:) I trust Linders to the max. And they know places that don't screw you. Just ask for recommendations of where to go if it's a repair they don't specialize in.

South Side Import is another good one. Even though they specialize in imports, they'll work on domestics as well

We always boarded at Tender Care Animal Hospital before, I want to say it was like $14 a day, per dog. They're a vet in Coralville; they're who we use as a vet for our dogs.

I don't have a personal recommendation in Iowa City, but can I recommend Click & Clack's [Mechanics Files](https://www.cartalk.com/mechanics-files/search?city=Iowa+City&state=IA&keyword=&field_makes_tid=All&radius%5Bsearch_units%5D=mile&radius%5Bpostal_code%5D=&radius%5Bsearch_distance%5D=10&sort_order=ASC)? I *can* personally recommend Dan, Dan, the Volvo Man on the east side of Des Moines.

I don't live there anymore, but Jim Simpson at Simpson Motorsports is highly regarded and mostly works on BMWs. If they won't service they may have a recommendation.

I hear that Tony at Tiger Automotive is the man. We're going to try him out the next time we take the cars in for an oil change. I hear he's like White Dog, but affordable.
Jennifer N. replied:
Dave Seydel. I'd trust my life to that guy.
Liz W. replied:
Skay Automotive is the best in town, hands down. A very close second would be the garage on Dodge and Church street (I think it's called "North Dodge Street Tire"). Both are staffed by very honest, skilled, straightforward people who do outstanding work; Skay Auto is usually a bit cheaper.
Andrew B. replied:
I hear Dave Seydel can fix your car while only using a paperclip and some toilet paper. The SOB is like the McGyver of the Auto Industry.
