"Deep Cleanings" or Scaling and Root Planing is necessary for people who have build up underneath the gum line. It's actually very common and if it's not cleaned it can lead to severe Periodontal disease, bone loss, tooth loss, systemic diseases. So many other things.

They're all pretty much suspect. You are doing the right thing to get varying opinions. My family settled on MV Family Dentistry as they seemed the most honest. MV Modern Dentistry is out for 'selling' as much as they can and Jolley really skrewed up my wife's tooth at one point... Buyer beware.

The ONLY time RPS or a deep cleaning is necessary is of there is serious gum disease like gingivitis & it's been years since someone has had a cleaning or has poor dental hygiene. You, as a patient, should always be allowed to pick what procedure(s) are being done. They are known amongst those of us in the Dental industry as a "chop shop" because of their methods & expectations of patients. Good for you for seeking recommendations elsewhere. Dr. Jolley in Maple Valley is well known & has a great staff. They will never push you or tell you that what you want, is not allowed. Storm is his Mngr. We love him & I have been taking my family there since I retired from the corporate world so not very long but we know many who have gone to him for years & love him. Good luck on your search & I'm sorry for your experience.
